Is this battery powered within the trolley or dc or ac into the track? Can you add a few extra track pieces and if so do you know the part number ?

Battery powered. You can also shut off the music which is helpful. I did not look to add tracks so I do not know.

Can it be used with a 4.5 adaptor?

This can not be used with an adaptor as the batteries go into the trolley which actually moves along the tracks.

The trolley does go back and forth then correct?

Trolley runs continuously in a forward and reverse direction. There is a video on their page that shows it going back and forth.

No post sale support and item didnt work

Looking for a full refund as item didnt work on arrival and Lemax provided no customer support when asked was there anything I could do differently to make it work. Intended for Christmas and new year display, went back in box as only travelled in one direction. I will buy again from Lemax but this particular product has multiple problems and I will be careful purchasing again
