Love this thing, i have 2 now!
Having tried other magnifying glasses, this is the one you want! The handle really comes in handy if you are examining something that you want hands free. The light works well also (vs another brand that broke after a short time). It's versatile and very useful...highly recommended!

Excellent tool for hands-free operation.
This one replaces a ten year old model. The original magnifier had a rubberized coating on the handle. Over time the rubber degraded and became sticky. The current model doesn’t have the rubber coating, works exactly as I hoped. Super happy. I use this for a variety of tasks ranging from finding tiny splinters in my fingers, reading tiny fonts on electronic devices (such as serial numbers), and untangling knots in my daughter’s thin necklace chains. Hands-free is a must for these tasks, as is the 5x magnification.

Good deal, but you get what you pay for.
I'm glad I purchased this, and it's been helpful while soldering. The magnifying glass works well. Though, because the flexible arm doesn't bend down far enough, you really will need to use this from only one direction - as they have it pictured. You cannot turn it around so the flexible arm isn't directly in front of you (and in your way), because if you do, then you'll need to be standing directly overhead looking down to see into the magnifier, which isn't a comfortable position. So expect to have the thick plastic arm obstructing some of your view. Also, the magnifying glass is plastic, so if your soldering iron touches it, you'll get little burn marks. Just keep that in mind. Mine already has three dings in the magnifier. The LED lights are nice to have, only wish they were brighter. I have to use one of the clamps to hold another LED flashlight so I can get enough lumens to see. Also the LED light that's built in doesn't seem to cast a wide enough light. You really need to put what you're soldering DIRECTLY in front of them for that light to work well enough. Problem for me here is that the clamp arms arms just don't bend well enough to position things just right in order for that to work all the time. So a secondary light is an imperative for me.For the price, it's a decent product. But, you get what you pay for. If you solder a lot, I'd spend the money on something constructed with better materials, and something that won't cause you the minor frustrations I've mentioned. If you're a hobbyist, it's pretty great.

Handy magnifier for reading or small projects
I bought two of these, and gave one to my Dad, who now uses it often. It looks sort of cheap, and is larger than I expected, but is actually built pretty well. It is definitely to big to fit in a pocket. I am concerned that the lens could get scratched though since there is nothing to protect it, but that is just a matter of taking care of it. The light is bright enough, and the stand is handy for working on projects. The 5.5x spot is a bit too small to be easy to use, but I have used it in a pinch. For the right price it is a nice magnifier to have on hand.

Not worthy of Carson brand
Warning to buyers who want this magnifier partly for the led lights. I need the light & I am returning this item due to the light being so dim, I thought I had a defective item. Also, the lense is not the quality lens that Carson is known for, namely quality lenses for a reasonable price. I rely heavily on Carson compact 7x18 closeup monocular and for years, the H95 2x 3.5" LED rimless chrome magnifier. Two outstanding Carson products. The only reason I ordered this plastic unit is Every Carson product is sold here, except for the H 95, which is what I wanted. I was ok with this plastic version because its 2.5x and it uses AA batteries instead of 3 button batteries my H 95 calls for. They are very hard fir me to replace. I was amazed this AA battery magnifier puts no light on objects! Clearly the LEDs are very cheap! I decided we will avoid any of the plastic handled line and just buy netal ones from Carson's WEB store. I warn buyers that being a Carson customer of many years, I suspect Carson sales MBAs are buying Chinese brand plastic magnifiers and having the factory put "Carson" on them.I must recommend buyers steer clear of these black plastic LED, AA & AAA battery magnifiers. This one has the look, feel, functionality of one from China I was sent as a gift from Haband clothing.

This magnifier will help eyes to see that which is too small for the eyes of a senior gal or guy...
2 AA Batteries not included, so have some on hand. Nice LED light helps a lot to see in poorly lit rooms. I am 62 and need this to read small print often now, even with my reading glasses on. I love how you can use this hands free also, with its little stand feature. It is hard to pull the battery door open by the 2 tiny tabs under the stand part, so I carefully lifted the open end part that is at the end by the tabs, with a toothpick. When done, the door closes and snaps shut.Glad this magnifying glass doesn't have a frame around it. Those just interfere with what you're trying to read. This was well worth the money~

Great for tiny crossword puzzles
I bought this for doing a daily crossword calendar which is in tiny print on small paper and the MagniLamp is working out just fine. I was worried that the legs of the stand might be in the way of the paper and that the glass would be too low for me to write under it, but neither is a problem. The diameter of the lens is a tad larger than 4" and the 4X insert is 1". I chose this over other freestanding magnifiers because it had the 4X insert which I need for removing finger splinters, etc. The quality of both lenses is good and the whole unit is lightweight but sturdy. My only complaint would be, as another reviewer noted, the short section of bendable stem doesn't curve a full 90 degrees, and that's the angle I need, so I do have to prop up the base by about half an inch. All in all, though, especially for the price, this is a great item.

Genial
