A must have for handheld video shooters
I use this with my Sony RX10 when I am going to shoot videos as it makes it very easy to start and stop the recording and to zoom if desired. I used to use video cameras to film my son's football games (he's the coach now) and find that the RX10 makes it far easier to film them, as I don't have to bring anything other and the RX10, this grip, an eye cover, and an extra battery. No more tripods, large camera bags, external viewfinders.I have never used this as a tripod and when the legs are closed the grip is quite comfortable to hold. I did purchase a neoprine device that fits over the RX10 eyepiece and then covers my left eye so that I don't have to close it, which makes the other eye less able to see. Works like a charm and the quality of the viewfinder of the RX10 allows me to follow the football better than even the 5" and 7" external monitors I used to use with my video cameras.I know this sounds like a commercial for the Sony RX10, and I guess it probably is, but without this grip I would not use this camera for filming games that start and stop every few seconds. It would not be practical and would require additional post-production work, and I do not charge my son's school to film their games. Plus, I will be 75 this year and climbing up to press boxes with a lot of equipment is no longer something I desire to do.The only problem now is when I tell the ticket seller that I film the games for the school, they wonder why I don't have a lot of equipment with me to do the job.

Does what it says... PLUS it works with the NEW SONY RX10!
I bought this on a "leap of faith" hoping it would work with my brand spanking new Sony RX10 camera that Sony just came out with. Since this grip/tripod is mainly used for traditional camcorder style cameras, I was hoping it would work on this brand new "DSLR Style" cameras... AND IT DID! IT WORKS!It takes photos, it zooms in/out and it starts/stops video recording all from the controls on the grip!It is a quality piece of gear, its grip has a rubber finish on the handle and it folds out tripod style to support the camera when not shooting or for stationary shots. It also has an adjustment on the deck to balance out the camera (slide it forward and back) plus it has a push button areato adjust the ANGLE of the handle so it feels very comfortable and balanced during shooting. Find the angle you feel mostcomfortable with, set it and forget it. Your good to go shooting! If you have the new SONY RX10 (awesome do it all/video camera by the way) then you will LOVE this little piece of gear for it!Just get it. It works.

Pricey but Functional
I purchased this grip for use on a Sony a6400 and a6500. It works well for both. I had two uses in mind.1) As a grip to steady the camera for low shutter speed shots. The a6400 does not have In Body Image Stabilization and some of my lenses are not stabilized either. I use both hands to hold the camera with the grip attached; my left hand on the grip, and my right hand in the normal position on the camera. This gives me two axis hand-held stabilization.2) As a travel tripod. I don't take many shots with me in the photo but when I do this will be the only tripod I'll need to pack and carry. It is small and light so fills that need quite well. For tripod use I've found it works better if I spin the camera around backwards on the grip. That puts the single middle leg under the lens which is more stable than having the other two legs off to the side where they aren't as stable. In the reversed position the single leg of the tripod protrudes about 1 1/4" further. See the photos. I think the design would have been better if the single leg was under the lens.Pros:- Small and light- Well built.- The slide on the foot allows better balance of the camera and lens.- A wrist strap is included- A travel pouch is included- The shutter button works well but I wish it could be programmed to be on the left or right as needed.- The zoom works will, even when using the Clear Image Zoom on a non-zoom lens.- It certainly is good to have an alternate video button as the a6500 video button is very poorly placed. Another review said the zoom buttons don't work during video recording. That is not my experience. Using the Sony 18-105mm f4 lens the zoom buttons on the grip worked during video recording.Cons:- I don't like the type of wrist strap included. I'm not going to commit $2,000 of camera and lens to the thin thread- The tilt adjustment is too course.- It is overpriced by half.

Works well
I used grip yesterday for about 3 hours straight. It definitely makes it more comfortable to use the camera. The buttons worked every time. It was very easy to stop and start the recording. I really like the zoom button. If you push the zoom button gently, then it does a slow zoom. If you press a little harder, you can feel like a "click", and it zooms in more quickly. I really like that feature. The grip is pricey, but for me it's worth it. I kind of wish the grip was longer and thicker. Maybe even a pistol grip. But it works well as it is.

Great grip for vlogging!
I use this grip for my Sony FDR-AX53 and it works great. Best for vlogging and the controls are very easy to use. It actually pretty sturdy when opening up the tripod legs and the one touch positioning button works awesome.

Works great
Bought this for the Sony Handycam CX440 and I couldn't be happier. The tripod fits perfectly and it's very easy to adjust the angle of the handle. I have had no problems with any of the controls. Everything for Sony seems to cost extra but this was worth the money in my opinion.
