Great Grill Surface Thermometer!
I received it quickly and it looked like a good quality gauge as advertised when I opened the package! I used it the very next day cooking a steak dinner! It was easy to use, very legible and it gave me the grill surface temperature quickly. I compared it to my infrared digital thermometer reading tool that I took readings to compare them and determined that it was giving me proper readings! I was impressed and happy plus most importantly the Steaks turned out perfect!

Ensures Great Grilling
If you hate guessing the temperature of your grill or flattop, this is the solution. It will allow you to figure the hot spots on your grill and help you adjust to consistent temperatures. Our food is coming out better than ever while avoiding over and under cooking. This is inexpensive, yet appears accurate. I always make sure to wipe any grease off the glass after use or it will infiltrate the thermometer over time and ruin it. Durablity is good, but I usually end up replacing it once a year. Hard core grillers laugh at me and then realize it is a great idea and usually buy one themselves.

Great product, but buyer beware.
The Good: Works as advertised. Can easily map the thermal profile of the grill's surface. I've owned quality grills in the past, and all have provided reasonably consistent heat over the cooking surface. But, things aren't made like they once were, so a thermometer like this helps to ID the trouble spots. The Bad: Many reviewers complained that after several uses, they can't read the dial. A buildup of grease, baked on by high grill temps, leave a film on the face of the thermometer that you can't see through. The Ugly: You have to clean the face of the thermometer frequently, after only three or four uses, and depending on what you grill and how close the thermometer is to it. I found that an SOS-type pad or soapy steel wool works best. I would've given this product a 5-star rating except that the product description doesn't caution the buyer on how greasy this thing gets and needs cleaning often. Obviously, it's a given since it plays in the mud. But, many reviewers sounded the alarm, so I was prepared. Still, the merchant should've offer some general cleaning tips. For the plug-and-play type, this frequent cleaning might be too inconvenient. Nevertheless, as long as you can see through the dial, this product delivers.

Accurate but only lasted one season of grilling
I bought this for use in my smoker to compare the temp on the two different levels, and for my propane grill to confirm my suspicion of cool spots. Did the job well for a few months, and then the face became so discolored I can no longer read it. Considering it only cost about $10, I guess I could consider this a throwaway item I replace every year, but I was hoping it would last longer (at least two seasons).

You just need to know how to clean the glass!
I was hesitant to get this because several people said it became unreadable after a few uses. The first time I used it I smoked ribs and pork butts an used it for about 8 hours. It was hard to see the temp by that time, and I was a bit afraid I had gotten something I could not use. The smoke and gunk was on the outside of the glass face and came clean like magic when I cleaned it with the stuff we use to clean the smoke off the inside of our wood burning stove. We use a produce called Speedy White. Just Google it! We are not really that smart---it took years to find something to get the door of the wood burner clean!

finally
don't know much about cooking. it really helps to know what temp you are working with. this works on my grill and frying pan or wherever I need to know the temp. Good price for what you get.

disappointing
This little gauge worked great for the first 2 times I put it in my grill to see what the starting temperature is so I can adjust the gas, however, after the 3rd time it got more difficult to see as the glass had become clouded and the markings were fading out. It never exceeded it's top temp of 550 ish degrees, and I never left it in the grill while the protein or veggies were actually cooking, so yes, very disappointing that by it's 6th use it's almost impossible to see the temperature at all.
