Will this work to transfer data from phone to external hard drive without a PC?

On The Go (OTG) devices like this one WILL WORK with EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES! Solid State drives & standard Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) alike. IT ALL DEPENDS HOW MUCH POWER THEY NEED TO PULL TO OPERATE CORRECTLY & EFFICIENTLY! USB-A Flash Drives, MicroSD Cards with adapters, or small card readers will USUALLY work fine because the power need to operate them is ½ AMP to 1 AMP current draw (approximately 1~3 volts). Larger HDDs including some SDDs MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY adapter adequate to supply the drive with enough power so that all you are using the OTG adaper for is DATA TRANSFER ONLY! Some HUBS have a small barrel plug to allow for an extra external power supply of 5v (MAX NOT 12V-EVER) @ 5 AMPS. Using a USB-A-to-barrel-plug cable or equivalent. IOW, as long as your HDD / SDD has the ability to provide SEPARATE power & data connections you SHOULD be fine! DISCLAIMER: Watch out for OVERHEATING with some of these OTG adapters The power charging side tends to get EXTREMELY WARM to the touch! 😳 But can still transfer the data fine from what I have seen so far... I want to connect my mouse (on usb port) and monitor (on usb c port) to macbook air (which has usb c only)...anyone?

Does power feedback through the otg usb-a port? i need a dedicated data port with no power.

If you're referring to the USB port itself being a powered port I'm really not sure if it is or if it isn't the way it's supposed to work is it's supposed to allow you to have your phone plugged in charging while using the USB port for data transfer. However in my situation it doesn't work like that if I have a power cord and a USB drive at the same time it will not charge the phone.
