So many leftovers!
I've been trying new foods and bought the Med-Hot Kokumaro Roux for my second attempt at cooking Japanese curry.I made the entire box worth for 3 people (a mistake) and ended up freezing 4 servings and had two more in the fridge. I made too much but luckily it seems curry makes good leftovers and seems to freeze well. Great for meal prep if you are into that sort of thing! The curry I made from this was delicious, I used fresh white onion, peeled and chopped carrots, a can of diced potatoes, and some boneless chicken thighs I cut into bite sized pieces. I followed the directions on the box and also watched a few videos on how to prepare curry from a roux (including the one on house foods website). I subbed a cup of water for a cup of chicken broth, added some salt and pepper, and 3-4 tablespoons of ketchup with the roux. It came out delicious!A few things I noticed about this Roux:* It tasted great!* Smells great both as the roux and while cooking.* The finished product was very smooth and creamy.* The spice (heat) level was nonexistent. I couldn't find any at all.Possible cons? I thought it tasted great, good balance of sweetness and savory. However, I had my sister try some and she said it tasted like brown gravy (like you put on turkey). I personally didn't see the resemblance that much but something to note I suppose.

My favorite ready-made Japanese curry
I’ve tried Golden Curry, Vermont Curry, & this. The Kokumaro is easily my favorite. I like both the medium hot or hot. (But remember that Japanese heat level is not as hot as something like Thai or Chinese.) It’s the texture of the sauce that is a big winner for me. It’s the thickest & creamiest out of all the ones I’ve tried. The flavor is really nice too. It’s easy to make, & I probably have it it at least once a month.

Absolutely delicious!
We bought this after watching one of our favorite YouTubers make it and it looked so good we couldn't resist trying, even though we don't usually like very spicy things. Lucky us, it turned out that even though we ordered the medium spicy version - it was all that was available on Amazon - this curry is not spicy at all. There is a small kick of warmth at the back end, but it's very very mild.It is absolutely delicious and we're already planning to buy multiple boxes to keep on hand. It's a quick easy meal in an instant pot, or a slow easy meal in a slow cooker, your choice. I recommend slow cooking so you can smell the deliciousness all day long lol.

More spice less sweet
Smooth and dark like SB Curry. Spicier than Vermont's Medium Hot (which isn't hot at all.) Mild to medium spicy, not so sweet. This one won some taste tests, so if you want spice and not sweet, this is a good choice for Japanese Curry. This one is very good if you want truly spicy but Japanese style curry. Medium Hot in Japanese curry is more like Indian mild fyi.

Super delicious
This is one of the higher rated curries. Not really hot. Didn’t disappoint. Would bug again.

This is mild, mostly turmeric
It was delicious and I ate it all but just didn't have any heat, even for medium hot. The only spice I taste is turmeric.Texture was nice and thick following boxed instructions. Might try Java Curry HOT next time.

So tasty!
In my opinion this is the best curry roux out there. I lived in Okinawa for 3 years and loved Cocos, but sadly I can’t say whether this is a dupe... all I can say is it’s tasty! It has a much more savory flavor than S&B Golden Curry. I like to cook mine with added cumin and cayenne for spice.
