is it sharp on both ends? can I cut through a box or tape ?

The blade is only sharp on one side. Yes, it will cut through cardboard and tape.

Holding it your right hand palm to where the blade side is facing up, put your index finger on the right side "wing" that is now facing away from you. Push down on that "wing" and you'll see the blade coming out. If you open it all the way it will lock in place. In order to unlock it and get the blade back into the handle, take your thumb and push down on the bottom strip of silver metal that's inside the handle (push on the area of that metal strip where you see a gap near the top . Use your left hand to push on the right side (dull side) of the blade and you'll feel it uplock and you can push the blade back into the handle. There are some videos on YouTube you may find helpful for opening and closing these kinds of knives. If this knife really has a spring it must be pretty weak.
