not "plug 'n play" - more like, "won't play".
So far, It hasn't been able to work. We can't get it play any DVDs. It keeps coming up with a window asking to choose a region for the drive. It is set to region 1 which is where we are at and the DVD is set up for but it will not play. It will not let us change the region. If we just click to close it, and attempt to play the disk, nothing happens. We tried restarting the computer but this didn’t help. We are trying to use it on a MacBook Air (OS Mojave) and MacBook Pro (OS Catalina). We contacted the company, waited 4 days to receive a response that read, "Sorry for the late reply. I will solve the problem now. i will contact our Technical staff." - that was 3 days ago and we haven't heard back. I guess we'll just return it and try a different product. I'd gladly change my rating if only the company would either tell me how to fix the problem or that it is defective and I should exchange if for another....

Excellent DVD drive
I liked a few things about the DVD drive. I like how it is plug and play. I did not want to spend time or energy figuring out what software to download. I also like the fact that it is sturdy. I also like the fact that it has two options either it charges through the computer USB connection, or it charges through its own power cord. I have not done any heavy work with it yet, but I understand that the separate power cord would enable the DVD player to write and rewrite and accomplish heavier tasks easier and faster. I also like that it is USB 3 which means it is faster than the slower USB 2. Finally, I really like the case. I have looked at sturdy decent cases and they are around $10 to $15 each, so this is a good buy. I strongly recommend this Guamar 5 in 1 External CD DVD Drive.

Great DVD/CD Burner
Super happy with the burner. It exceeded my expectations. The product is very sturdy and comes with a very nice case. The primary reason for my purchase was to copy all of my CD's & DVD's on an external hard drive. You need to purchase the upgraded software so that the artists and songs populate with the correct information. Its cheap and does a lot more so it was not a big deal. With heavy use, it does not disappoint. Its works as well now as it did when I first received it. Highly recommend.

Don't Go Cheap!
I am very pleased with this unit. I purchased this drive as a external add on for a high end Brennan CD ripper/juke box. Though the Brennan comes with an internal drive the instructions recommended an external USB 3.0 drive in order to save wear and tear on the internal unit but also the external would allow for a higher speed rip rate. Long story short the first unit I purchased was in the $25 range and it was dysfunctional right out of the box. CD's would take three loads to start and when they did the rip rate was slower than the Brennan internal. After this unit stalled on the third CD I quit, put it back in the box and returned it as defective. I then decided to run a search by cost of compatible drives and thought that the Guamar drive was worth a try. When I opened the box the quality level was immediately noticeable vs. the cheaper drive. It had more weight, the drawer seemed much firmer, etc. I plugged it into the Brennan and the difference in operation was night and day. The drive was recognized within seconds. I placed a CD into the drive and set the Brennan to rip. Wow, the first CD finished at a 19X rip rate! I ripped about 80 CD's over a few days with this drive and it was flawless in it's operation. This is a quality drive and the $50 price tag is still a modest price point. Don't go cheap. I've learned that lesson once again.
