Into the Badlands: Season 1 [Blu-ray]

Let‘s hope for season 2
Well I‘m not one who like to see a load of spoilers in reviews as I like to find them out by watching a film/series for myself, so here goes my (hopefully) spoiler free review.Into The Badlands is a martial arts / mystic series with some impresive scenery, action sequences and enough cliff-hangers to keep you holding out for season 2 to come around. The story follows the character development of a struggling army chief set in future society where most modern life luxuries are no longer available. In the series we see this chief "solider" struggle with his moral compass, find love and seek redemption. It‘s an often used plot, which played out well can still provide a worth-while story to follow. In the background is a mystery surrounding a young boy, the power struggle between the rival "tribes", a lot of plotting and people up to no good, bad guys, not so bad guys and a huge amount of martial arts action. There are some very well executed, crouching tiger-esque, action sequences with some impressive weapons scenes whilst leaving enough intrigue surrounding key characters to leave you wondering what comes next. The last episode leaves a hell of a lot of open questions to keep you guessing for the next season and takes some of the key characters in "interesting" directions which I for one would love to see played out. There are a lot of 1 or 2 star reviews out there and I‘ve seen a lot of comments centered around the series being too far fetched or unbelievable.... I think the idea behind a future, post-apocalyptic martial arts film with large helpings of mysterious powers, is that you suspend your disbelief and just enjoy the ride of what‘s on show. Are the actor performances Oscar worthy? Nope, but they aren‘t awful either. Are the character developments artistic and deep? Not really, but there are enough mysteries to keep you guessing as to what comes next.Am I going to waste my time watching this? That depends on what you expect to get out of a series like this!Sit back and enjoy some decent film making, pretty good action sequences and some intriguing plot developments (some are obvious!). This is for me a good "throw away" series. Not too deep; not too shallow. Definitely worth a watch if you‘re into a little bit of action mixed in with a bit of mystic questions - Think Big Trouble In Little China but without the comedy!

Possibly my favourite new TV show.
Hmmm... Where do I start with writing a review of this? When I watched it the first time around, I had absolutely no idea what to expect and had no idea I was about to watch one of the most original, fun and engrossing TV shows that I've ever seen.Sometimes the best things in life come at your from out of the blue, and that's exactly what happened with this show. I'm on most of the sci-fi and fantasy nerd news sites and I don't recall reading or seeing a single thing about this and that *boom* it's there, on Amazon, and I start reading things about it; people gushing with positivity about it and, let's be honest, that's what I'm about to do here. The most stunning thing about 'Enter the Badlands' is that, as far as I can tell, not based on a book - comic or otherwise - and yet it seems as though it's got that feeling to it. The characters are well developed, the storyline compelling and the action (oh, the action) is straight out of a high-budget kung-fu movie and if you're a fan of well choreographed and exciting fight scenes, you are in for a heck of a treat if you've not seen it yet.Daniel Wu is absolutely amazing as the main character, Sunny and Aramis Knight makes a welcome appearance as MK. In fact, every member of the cast is brilliant and I can't wait to see more of them when the second series is released. Definitely recommended!

Sticks in the craw!
This is an Amazon original & I have Prime, so why the hell did I have to pay to watch it again? Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant story, but paying has really soured the experience.

yes it's a high octane dysotopian martial arts TV show what's not to like. has a intriging story as well
Martial arts made gruesome meets a dystopian world every punch and hit feels realistic and the action is well done, has high production values, yes it won't win any awards but it will win legions of martial arts fans who love Bruce lee, jet lee, Jackie Chan so on, the characters and the world is cool and well constructed the story has many reasons to make you want more, any martial arts fan should be satisfied with this show. The show is a perfect blend of ancient china and American southern culture before it's civil war, the dystopian world is ruled by a higher class called Baron's who rule over vast estates in the so called bad lands bringing order and protection in return for absolute servitude, just like ancient Chinese lords except the first one we meet is more like a southern plantation owner, they have warriors trained to the highest level loyal to them the main character is bound to one of them, this brings a whole flurry of story intrigues and possibilities, in the first episode mysteries are stirred up about a boy who is found in the bad lands with a mysteries past after a great fight scene, which resonates with the main characters own story then the set pieces begin the world is revealed and in the end you will want more. I dowill update as show progresses.so far definitely worth the watch,

Best martial arts of any TV show.
Best martial arts on any north american TV show, by far, ever. Definitely movie quality practical effects, decent performances by all, and relatively tight writing. The first season might be short (only 6 episodes I think), but it sure packs a punch.
