To me it has a nice citrusy, soothing scent.

Yes this shampoo is gluten free, organic, non-GMO, cruelty free and nature-derived. I just bought this shampoo for the first time. I have to say that I love it. It makes my have feel so soft yet not weighed down.

Q: Is this safe for color treated hair?

I selected the shampoo for Thinning hair. My hair is naturally blonde---don't know if it is safe for color treated hair.

Q: How well does this work with hard water? Does it cause buildup?

I have used this product several years. I have not noticed a build-up, and my water is fairly hard. Previous to using Andalou, I did have to use something to remove build-up on occasion.
