If I use to prevent slippage rug on rug, will it leave residue or damage the underlying carpet???

I have had my rug taped down on my carpet for months now and I haven't had this problem. I have also found many other household uses for this strong tape. Rubbing alcohol takes it off glass easily, so id I ever have a residue problem, I would use that, since it doesn't damage my carpet.
