can you use store brand popcorn and store oil also or a certain types only?

I'm sure you could use any brand of popcorn. I used the Amish hull free popcorn and coconut oil. I researched online and decided to try it. I use 2 T. of coconut oil, 1 tsp. popcorn salt and 1/2 cup of the Amish popcorn. It comes out perfect every time! Love the popper. Makes making popcorn super easy. Hope this is helpful.

Does this have an internal paddle sweeper or a bent wire sweeper?

The Franklin's Whirley Pop has a bent wire sweeper - we've tested it against internal paddle sweepers and the bent wire is more efficient at popping more kernels and popping them more evenly.

Will it work on a magnetic induction stove?

I can't believe some of the answers I have read here! First off, if you own an induction stove, you know you can simply put an induction cookware frying pan underneath the machine and it will heat up better and faster than and electric or gas burner. Sure it would be nice not to have to do that, but in my book well worth the effort compared to all other options.

How does it compare to the wabash farms whirlypop?

I don't know what the other answer persons had, but MY Wabash Farms Whirlypop has metal gears, just like this item. Possibly they bought some cheap knock-off and did not know the brand name? BUT the Wabash item is aluminum so it definitely would not work on an induction cooktop. If you need apopper that works on induction, then it appears the only choice is the Franklin one, but be careful as it may now be made of aluminum as well (guessing from recent reviews).
