This tr50 tripod's legs stretch out from the top so its base is wider which makes it more stable. But you may not able to hold it as a selfie stick.

It expands up to 3.75" wide. And you can also reach us for a wider phone holder if your cellphone fit into the original one.

Q: Does the phone adaptor section come off, so that I could use it with another tripod, or is it attached?

Yes, the adaptor can be removed. My hubby has a monopod for his camera and I am able to attach this adaptor to his monopod to use with my phone as well. Also, once you remove the adaptor, you can screw in a standard camera as long as it has the universal screw hole under your camera. So this is good for phone and a traditional camera.
