the cord is not very long & hinders where you can place the light b/c it has to sit a certain way

That info was in the directions that came with the purchase but I think about 18”. That’s what I do when I’m putting on make-up in the mornings

Does it have to be plugged in to work or will it charge via usb?

Can very simply be run on a good external charging battery that you would use to charge your phone. I use my 10,000 mah charger. You can then use your light free from wall or computer outlets.
