I would not use in water. Brio toys are made of wood and plastic. The wood would not survive repeated water use.

The ferry has a clearance of just under 2 inches. So as long as train cars from Thomas the Train have a height of just under 2 inches I would say they should fit inside.

Does the ferry move or is it like a tunnel.

While it doesn't have wheels, the ferry doesn't attach to the track. It comes with two 'docking' pieces. Place one dock piece at each end of the track you want to connect with the ferry (the two ends can be as far apart as you want). The ferry will slide easily into each dock and the 'gate' on the ferry will automatically raise as it comes into port allowing the trains to drive into and off of the boat.
