Esschert Design Citronella Spiral with Metal Holder - 10 Pieces

Did not expect this to be as fantastic, was annoyed that my usual brand of Fly Away was out of stock on Amazon, but this product is absolutely fab. Yes the actual box that holds the coil is a bit cheapey, and flimsy, but I really like the design of the strings sprang inside the metal holder, it provides for such even positioning of the coil. Nice mild smell and very effective against mosquitoes. What I liked about it even more is how neatly it burns, instead of ash dropping everywhere, the ash here essentially stays neatly in a coil shape until you take it and shake it out. Really impressed. Definitely buying again...

This is only product that I’ve ever bought that seems to deter all flying creatures. I’ve had one for many years, bought it at Ideal Home Show. This year I bought 3 more for my children I’m sure they’ll be as delighted as I am. Remember to extinguish it when you’ve finished with it and you can relight it over and over. Also, for those that don’t know, it’s not a flame, justsmoke. Very easy to light too.

Can't say with absolute certainty, but these things seemed to make a difference keeping midges away in Scotland. We would light one of these outside the entrance of our tent in the morning and evening when swarms of midges would get close and within 15 minutes it was safe to come out of the tent. It might have been coincidence, but seems unlikely to be just that after several days. So I think these made a difference.

Never had anything like this before, but happy to recommend it, just a heads up really, the citronella coils are joined in pairs that you need to separate before using. If you just go ahead and use it without separation, you will cause a potent fumigation with possible risk of overheat. The tin burner that comes with it is essential for these swirls to burn safely and efficiently, ignite the outer tail of the swirl, allow the flame to burn for a few seconds then puff out lay on the internal wire grid, place the lid on and let the red glow burn away. I would suggest that it is not to be left near interested children, dogs or cats etc., as it is easy to knock open, and disturb the burning swirl. One swirl lasts around 3 hours, wind depending, and sure does what it should. The smoke is pungent and must not be used inside or even in an awning according to the instructions. The end product is pure ash, and knock out ready for the next one. Replacement swirls are available without the burner, and I certainly will be ordering some soon. I cannot smell citronella at all with these, it just smells like a joss stick in my opinion and I’ve never been a fan of that smell, but having said that 4 of us have sat outside every night and not been bitten, I have 1 light on the table and another one lite under the table that we sit round. 1 spiral lasts x2 evenings with us as it burns very slowly which is great, you can run the end under the tap to put it out and use it the next night, I purchased a pretty tin for it to go in but it does come with a little silver case to put them in, very difficult to separate them as each one is joined with another one but if carefully done they come apart But I did brake a few that wouldn’t pop apart whole but the container it comes with hold broken ones fine, it does leave a orange residue inside the lid of the tin and it does leave the smell in your hair
