Update 7/11/25 I was playing around with this at the table just testing stuff out and I did find that if it auto locks a weight from clipping the fish you can just hit the lock button one time to unlock the locked in weight, I’m am going to be ordering another lip gripper to put on this scale as it’s now a back up.Forgot to mention in the initial review it uses two triple A batteries (batteries not included) if you get the reference. I also changed the rating to 4 stars. Not very happy with this scale for a one man operation if you are by yourself, since it auto locks weight while you are clipping the gripper to the fish it records the weight of the scale. I tried to turn it off and back on while the fish was attached but a 1.32 pound fish doesn’t weigh zero. If you have a helper or coangler that can hold the scale while you fumble with the gripper than it works fairly well. I couldn’t figure out how to turn on and off the backlight as the instruction is pretty bleak and not very detailed on all the functions. Built well, battery life is ok as I haven’t used it much in a tournament setting. Gripper is decent but doesn’t open very easy. Does snap close but I would imagine if ya had a good solid 6lb fish on it it could pop open. I won’t return it I’ll probably pass it on to my oldest kid who fishes a lot. I’ll be looking for another only based on I fish alone most times

Easy to read and accurate
This is accurate and easy to use. We primarily walleye fish, so this has been a helpful tool when tournament fishing. It is compact and easy to read with brightness.

Worst "Tournament" Bass Scale Ive used....
This new version of the snail trail VA-02 is by far the worst tournament scale Ive used. Do not buy this if you fish tournaments and use culling tags. I will start this review by saying that I used an older version of this scale that didn't look like this one. Ive included pics of both scales. The one on the left is what Ive used for a couple years and love it. Compared to the weigh in scales at tournaments Ive found this to be much more reliable than some of the more expensive scales that Ive owned. I've owned or have used basically every high quality tournament scale out there other than the Bubba scale and the earlier version was hands down one of the best.Fast forward... I liked it so much that I wanted to buy a backup just in case something happened to the one I have. I ordered it online and when I opened the box and turn it on the screen looks nothing like the older version. This new version has a nice bright screen and I tested it against the other scales and the tolerance is very accurate. The biggest issue with this scale is that it doesn't allow for designating a fish per cull tag #. When you look at it at first glance you would think that is an option but I come to learn that all this scale does is basically weigh your fish and re-rank them so at the end of the day you can go back and see your top 8 weights in the order from heavy to lightest. Why snail trail would change a good thing is beyond me with so many more people entering the tournament scene since covid. What's even more odd is that they went backwards in capability and when you go to their website the scale is listed as a tournament fish scale?

Whoa that’s a big one..
Nice and durable. It’s portable so easy to put in fishing tackle box or with gear. Was accurate and great value for money. My kiddo loves the color green so that’s also a plus.
