Adventurous
This is a YA sci-fi adventure with different alien species, an AI with personality, a young protagonist trying to survive an alien invasion and save friends and family, a rebellious alien fighting for a good cause, a bit of mystery, and more. It's easy to root for the main characters and follow their adventures as they navigate a new planet amidst an alien invasion, meet allies and race to the ultimate goal, to save the planet, and universe, from the bad guys.

Clever characters and good writing
Full disclosure: I know the author, but not so well that I would have to read the book, and definitely not so well that I would have to like it. But I really, really do. In particular, it deserves five stars for its cleverest character, an artificial intelligence that I don’t want to reveal more about but trust me, you’ll love it. It’s simultaneously everything you love about classic sci-fi, but with a 2020s spin that makes it feel fresh and a very quick read.

Checks All of My Boxes
I downloaded Daros when it was free to everyone for a short time. I have read and liked the Frosthelm books by this author, and was looking forward to trying his first venture into science fiction. I was not disappointed. This book checks all of my boxes, regardless of genre. My list includes having an interesting and intelligent main character, at least a little humor, action scenes without graphic violence, just a little tension and drama, an interesting setting and supporting characters, and strong women that aren’t afraid to stand up for themselves, who are nice but don’t let people use them as a doormat. I look for protagonists that are good people, trying to do the right thing, even or especially when it is the hard thing. I am fine with a slower paced, character driven story, as long as the story keeps moving and characters make progress to their goals. This book had everything I look for, and I enjoyed exploring the new world and societies. As with the Frosthelm books, this story features intelligent female characters in roles usually occupied by males. The chapter title puns were fun. I can’t remember any glaring typos or other errors, and I didn’t feel as though the plot dragged at any point.I am looking forward to more books by Dave Dobson.

Good story, but...
There's a great story in here. And it can be a quick read. But since the stakes remain or at least feel the same throughout, it can feel monotonous. Still, there's some interesting ideas and good story that I hope the author continues on building.

Shortness of breaths
Aimed at the young adult market Daros is a world settled by humans when discovered not occupied by any aliens. Yes, the humans did do some mining but it is world more geared to agriculture in the end. That is, till the discovery of some "ancient ruins". Suddenly three alien races appeared in the Daros sky.And a devastating war happened. With that as milieu sixteen year old Brecca Vereen and her dad arrived on the eve before the devastationl started, in their spaceship Envy's Pride, to deliver some much needed cargo. And with an unusual metalic covered crystal that is required on the quiet. That is when everything went haywire and Becca's quiet existence explodes into a life threatening lethal adventure. And the reader develop white knuckled grips wide eyes and a shortness of breaths chapter by chapter as the submersive plot unfolds.Enjoy.

I would recommend the book to fans of science fiction
My rating 4.3The sci-fi novel “Daros (Kindle Edition)” by Dave Dobson is solid with an interesting story. The characters are well crafted and the descriptions are good. Only some little things I needed to give a grade of 5, in some places the story somehow slowed down (maybe that's my impression) but overall the story is a lot of fun.Now a little about the story: Sixteen-year-old Brecca Vereen with her father’s merchant ship is coming to the planet Daros. But before they reach the runway at Daros, the planet is attacked by an unknown alien race. Their ship is shot down by unknown aliens, and Brecca Vereen jumps out of the ship with the rest of the crew. Her father made her do it because he was the only one left on the affected ship to try to land him on the surface. When Brecca comes out of the rescue capsule she sets off in search of her father, but the alien invaders begin to occupy the planet. But she is unaware that she will soon have to save the entire universe and that she will have to make decisions, on which her life and everyone she knows will depend.I would recommend the book to fans of science fiction.
