Love this henna hair dye. Non-toxic, rich color for brunettes.
COLOR: Lovely, rich brown color. I also tried the "golden brown" color which has a bit more of the warmer hues to it and for my color, the "light brown" was nearly spot on. My hair color is perhaps a bit more of an ashy-light brown, and when I used the "light brown" henna color, if anything, my color had more shine and depth. :)DIFFERENT THAN TRADITIONAL HAIR DYE: NO toxic scents or burning. I mean, its just amazing to not have to deal with that. Is it more time-consuming? Yes. I plan accordingly and read or work (no meetings) on the in-between as the henna is sitting on your hair. I have found a couple tools beneficial for helping this process: duckbill hair clips and gloves that fit better. One time I used another shower cap on top of the one provided just to make sure all my hair stayed in place (this is when my hair was long, think: cut 10" off and it would still be below my shoulders). My gloves came ripped in one package, so I would definitely keep a box of gloves around. The shower cap can be itchy where it is stitched together, no big deal.PROCESS: The process involves 1) shampooing with a clarifying shampoo, 2) covering hair in the viscose hair dye, 3) leaving it on for an hour or so, then 4) washing it all out with a conditioner. I used vaseline at step 1.5 all around my hair line and my ears to the keep the henna from staining me. All of that and the hair dye rinsed away well. My hair felt softer after each round, resoundingly so after the first use of henna. I watched videos of henna blocks having to be melted than then applied - sound cool, but not the structure that works for me. This bottle (I just take the nozzle off to get at the henna) is a good fit for me.SEMI-PERMANENT: Wonderful for gray hair, as it naturally fades and new grays pop up, but no harsh dye lines. About 1/3 of my hair is gray (in the most visible places) and therefore I take the color every 6 weeks or so. I can push it a bit longer too.EXPENSE: A bit more costly for DIY hair-dye, but certainly worth it if you don't want all the chemicals. The cost also depends on hair length/thickness. I used a full bottle when I had super long hair (and kinda felt like I could have used more), and over half of a bottle when my hair was cut to just below shoulder (but I think I could have used 1/2 bottle and been fine). So, this product will usually provide me 2 uses per bottle.OVERALL: Love this product. I can no longer handle the chemicals that I once could.

Highly recommended for grey/silver/white hair!
My hair was getting very silver (over 50%) when I decided to bring it back the color of my youth (brown). (I'm too young to be silver yet!!) First time out, I used conventional hair color (Natural Instincts); the color was great but I had a reaction to the chemicals (extreme dizziness/nausea). Afraid that I would have to abandon hair coloring and return to silver, I did some online research and learned about henna. I was about to try a powdered henna product...till I read the instructions. It seemed like a lot of trouble to make your own color solution using powder and distilled water and letting it sit for hours...and two solutions were involved, meaning two mixing requirements. Then I found Surya Henna. It's already mixed...all you do is apply it to clean hair, cover your head with the plastic cap that's included, and time it. Just like conventional hair color. As of this review, I have used this product twice and I LOVE it. It's very easy to use, the color is great, no adverse reaction, and it also conditions my hair. My hair is in better condition after using the product, which was not the case with the conventional hair color, which left my hair dry and straw-like. My hair gradually lightens as I wash it, which is actually kind of nice because I get to enjoy the full color range from dark brunette to ash brunette! And, because my hair is short and fine, one bottle of the product gives me two applications. Can't beat that! I don't know how it works on other hair colors, but from the perspective of someone with almost completely silver hair, I highly recommend Surya Henna.

OMG, How Awesome is this????
I left a review as far as the application process goes. When I rinsed my hair, after leaving the product in for the designated 30 minutes for superior gray coverage, I was amazed. I did use a "detangler" product for conditioning (Paul Mitchell detangler) and my hair feels wonderfully thick, is beautifully covered, every bit of gray has now turned to a beautiful golden blonde, so it looks as if I've sort of streaked my hair a bit, which is fine. I chose light brown and as I said prior, my hair had been color treated golden 3 mos prior to application. I would say the coloring chart is right on, and I followed the directions as explicitly stated on the packaging. I'm extremely pleased. My hair looks like my natural color with natural highlights and it is soft as can be. I used the blow dryer to 'separate' my hair strands and had my 14 y/o son look and report if he saw grays and what color he did see. He said no gray and all looks either golden blonde or brown. It looks shiny and very healthy as well. I would and have definitely recommended this product. I will definitely buy it again. No odor, no burning, no fumes, no nothing but nature. I love it....BUY BUY BUY, it saved me a ton of money doing this myself as opposed to getting my hair done at the salon every 6 weeks as I had been doing.

Great shine and adds thickness. Just wish the pricing would go back to normal ($12-15).
I really like this dye. I mix it 50/50 with a darker shade and it creates a perfect medium shade that blends well with grey roots (no hard dark/white lines in between dyes). I like how the dye adds thickness and shine to each strand, and thus body. My only concern is the price. What is going on with the fluctuations and super high prices these days? I used to be able to buy both shades, for years, for $12. But the past 8 months or so it’s sometimes $18 and $21 and $15 if you’re lucky?? While other shades are still $12? It’s just getting too expensive for the size bottle. Because it’s hena and a lot of it washes out, usually need to dye twice a month. So I’m going to try some others now too in case the pricing doesn’t improve. I’m hoping to find other reviews that like this product and share any other brands they like too as a possible alternative.
