Great little, cheap radio
I have two of these for my wife/friend to use while in the great outdoors. Radio works incredibly well and love the fact that it is waterproof, so I dont worry about it getting rained on or splashed on while fishing in my kayak. For those complaining that it doesnt have a usb charger port, you can buy a usb charger dock on amazon. I think it was $13. I use my NocoBoost GP70 lithium ion jump starter battery to charge it when camping. Radio is ready to use out of the box, but it is nice to use CHIRP to customize it to your own needs. You will need to watch some tutorials on Youtube to figure out how to customize it on CHIRP. It isnt the easiest process, but it is typical with this kind of product. it has a steep learning curve. These radios are so tough and work so well for the money, it is scary.

Great GMRS Handheld
This is a great radio for FRS/GMRS use, it is locked to FRS/GMRS frequencies, but that is fine with me, I have many other Handhelds to use for the other Freq's that I am licensed to use. Its kind of nice having a radio that is just for FRS/GMRS. I have not tested the waterproof claim nor do I intend to, there are youtube videos that will show you that, I however am not gonna take the chance. LOLI did purchase the Baofeng RA-MD2 antenna that is longer than the stock antenna and tuned for GMRS, it greatly improved my signal for receive, and I would assume transmit, but haven't talked to anyone yet since changing the antenna. But I believe its an improvement for this radio. There is no Airband receive or USB-C charging on this radio, but I do think after market batteries may be available that support USB C charging. It probably takes 3-4 hours to charge fully in the charging base.Overall, not a bad radio for the price.

Works well with a couple of quirks and an unusable bent antenna
The media could not be loaded. The UV-9G feels solid and is easy to operate with one hand.Of course the important feature is its water resistence which is why I chose it over getting another Radioddity GM-30. I don't plan to drop it in water, but its nice to know I can use it in the rain. One defect out of the box - The threaded base of the antenna that came with the unit is bent to the point it will not screw on to the radio. Looks to like a defect in manufacture as opposed to damage after the fact. (Video attached)Quirks 1 - If you attach the programming cable and then turn on the unit it will display faint changing nonsense and will not up or download data. The work arounds are either attach the programming cable with the unit turned on OR depress the transmit key while turning on the unit.Quirk 2 - Antennas like the Nagoya NA-771G do not fit on the unit because the radio body has a high collar round the unit's antenna connector with the problem being agravated by the unit's antenna connector not being perfectly centered in hole. The work around I am using it to carefully trim the plastic base of the NA-771G with a sharp knife to allow it to sit lower on the unit's connector.

Almost there.
Purchased my Baofeng uv9g last week and like it out of the box, however, there are still some glitches.First glitz noticed was the #key still does not allow change of power! The work around is simple though:Press menu, 2 and there is the power adjust. The other item I noticed was that the DIY channels are still in groups of 3! And a change made in one shows up in the other 2 when scanning. Using CHIRP I was able to skip scanning the weather channels. However, it should be noted that it will scan ALL the DIY channels unless you skip the unused ones also. The other item noted was, the little extra screw for the programming cable is not captured. Got lost the first day, a lot of crawling recovered it now tape 'captures' it. Still not quiet the Redhead of the GMRS radios. Oh, I did paint a white line on the on/off knob to see if the radio is ON or not and roughly where the volume is set. Another thing I noticed is that radio is supposed to be water proof, however, the battery compartment is not! There is no discernible gasket on either the battery or the radio itself! So water can enter the battery compartment, don't drop this radio in salt water! Other than those glitches it is a really nice radio.Rudio

Worst Reception Ever!
I recently purchased two separate orders of the BAOFENG UV-9G GMRS Radio with high expectations for reliable communication and entertainment. Unfortunately, this product has fallen far short of those expectations, performing dismally on all fronts. Transmit and receive capabilities on GMRS channels, as well as FM radio and local NOAA channels, are shockingly poor at times.GMRS Channel Performance:The most fundamental function of a GMRS radio is its ability to transmit and receive messages clearly and consistently. Regrettably, the BAOFENG UV-9G fails miserably in this regard. On GMRS channels, the radio suffers from severe static, interference, and a noticeable lack of range. Even in ideal conditions, communication is far from reliable. During my testing, I found that the signal quality deteriorated rapidly as I moved only a short distance away from my counterpart, rendering this radio practically useless for its intended purpose.FM Radio and NOAA Channel:The woes don't end with GMRS channels. The FM radio feature is equally problematic, with a persistent static that overwhelms the audio quality in most buildings and near windows. Tuning into local FM stations is a frustrating experience, as the static drowns out the music or dialogue, making it practically unlistenable at times. Furthermore, the local NOAA channels, are plagued by the same static issue, rendering the radio inadequate for staying informed during inclement weather. Conclusion:In summary, the BAOFENG UV-9G GMRS Radio is a profound disappointment. Its poor performance on GMRS channels, coupled with unreliable FM radio and NOAA channel reception, renders it unsuitable for communication or entertainment purposes. With a plethora of alternatives available on the market, it would be prudent to explore other options that prioritize functionality and reliability.
