Finally, a fool proof charger.
Charges all common battery's mix and match. Already using it and it works perfectly

This thing is the best charger yet.
This thing chargers up my 18650 so fast, that I wonder sometimes, if it has really even finished charging them up. Now, to a side note. It is not a concern to me, but my older charger would charge aa and triple a batteries, where as this one will sometimes and sometimes not charge them. I don't know if it is a fault or does not really know how to deal with these type of batteries. I don't really care, as I already have a charger for regular batteries anyway. Just something I noticed while trying to charge my aa batteries on it, just to keep me from having to walk to the back room to put them on charge.

Does a good job charging 18650 Lithium batteries
Have used this charger on 28 Lithium Ion 18650 so far and it works well. It has a Grading funcion that basically tests 18650 batteries, up to four at a time. That test takes a long time, over eight hours. To just charge 18650 batteries is not a fast process but only takes a few hours, depending how many batteries are charged at one time. The rate of charging is slow and designed not to overheat or damage the batteries. I suspect all chargers are designed for the same purpose? This charger works for me.

Fantastic Product, a few fixes and improvements would make it a Home Run!
Fantastic Product. Since receiving I've evaluated, graded, and charged/discharged 50 18650's. This seems to be a workhorse, and great product. But all is not perfect. Here are the minor flaws as I've observed.1. IR (Internal Resistance) measurement is inconsistent among slots. This is demonstrated in the pictures supplied. This seems to be even worse on my VC8, than this VC4 Plus but both products are affected. To get an accurate IR measurement -- when a measurement is suspect -- take multiple measurements across different slots then use the average or more likley, minimum result.2. While the included QC is OK; this is still current limited. Only able to charge 1A across 4 batteries or 4A total. Not horrible, but a bit more would be welcome. However, being USB/DC Powered instead of external AC Brick or AC power supply is great.3. Discharge Ability is limited. Has a relatively slow discharge rate used when grading or storing a battery.4. While not listed, it unsurprisingly, also charge 20650 cells. These are somewhat rare, but found in several tool batteries.5. While seemingly reasonably-sturdily built, it does not get terribly hot either (it does get warm however). However, there is no evidence of UL other type-acceptance on the product. While "probably OK", lack of said (legal) marking is suspect -- best case cost cutting / China Normal. Worse case, it wont pass.. It's probably best to put it in a LiPO charging bag/box for peace of mind protection.6. Nice Display. Although, I'm not hot on the 'dumb-ed down' gas-guage voltage display; I suspect I'm in the minority here.. would prefer to have some advanced display optons to just display *all* info at once for each slot. I'd pay a few $ more for a charger that had this but otherwise identical.Overall though, for a 'cheap' (<$40) charger, this is good and probably the one to get in this category. Good job XTAR.

Even charges 18650!
Love that it charges 90% of batteries that 100% of people own lol. For reference, it takes about three hours to charge a 2000 Mah AA battery.I’ve had it for a couple years with zero complaints.

Useless Piece of Junk
I should have known better than to buy an XTAR charger - I've never liked the designs of these units and this unit's horrible performance just confirms that.Where can I begin? I bought this because I needed a charger that could take NiMH D-cells - which the VC4 Plus does. However this unit is supposed to charge such cells up to 1.45V and I was getting "FULL" after 1.38V. On top of that, the fastest current I could get on ANY NiMH cell was around 600mA so it's basically USELESS for charging high capacity cells. Oh and BTW - just to get the 600mA rate, I had to set the the charge rate to 2000mA which basically means to charge two (confirmed) 10,000 D cells to a paltry 1.38V it would probably take 15-16 hours. No thanks. So I thought, ok, fine - I'll just use it to charge 4.2V lithium ion cells. While it works fine on 18650's it had all kinds of problems recognizing 21700 cells, and half the time when I did get it to work, it was displaying the wrong voltage (4.15V when my bench multimeter and ALL of my other chargers are saying 3.61V). NOT good.I never got to trying out the grade or store modes - and quite frankly I figured it would have been a waste of my time anyway seeing as the standard charging mode only worked reliably with 18650's (and in all honesty I'm not even certain this unit is truly reliable on 18650's).The fact this thing cannot assign currents to individual slots also sucks (had this charger worked as intended I could have put up with that - but alas, it didn't).I wouldn't recommend this unit to anybody, not even users who only use 18650's. The VC4 Plus is simply NOT reliable. This unit is being returned. If I could rate this thing ZERO STARS, I would. Hot garbage that is BEST AVOIDED.

4 bays became 2? Unique scenario?
I had high hopes for this device and it excelled at its job for a couple of months. After a point, it stopped recognizing anything that was placed in the left 2 bays, and will only recognize batteries in the right 2 bays. I've seen this happen with other branded 4-bay chargers, so I'm not sure why this happens, unless it's a typical case of all chargers using the same base components. I like the heavy-duty USB power brick that it came with, along with the convenience of using a USB cable, over a proprietary one. Just wish mine hadn't failed and that all 4 bays could still work. Not sure if this happens to other people, or if my case is special, but I'll probably stick to 2-bay chargers from here on out. Will likely look into other chargers by this manufacturer, as the battery testing (measuring charge amount) and storage prep (draining to safe amount) features are fantastic, and not found on most other chargers!
