I want to build a patio for an outdoor miniature garden. Are they suitable for outdoor use?

You could try using a mason bit. When drilling, keep the bit cool by squirting water at the drill hole using a simple spray bottle. Be sure to clamp the brick snuggly before drilling. Vary the speed of the drill to see what speed gives the best results. If a brick cracks, try another but a little slower. I hope it works out for you., and I really like your idea to use them as charms.
