can this meter be used in flower pots?

Yes it can. The larger pot the more useful it becomes. The stem is not large in diameter, but large for a small pot. I like this meter - as I press it through the root zone I can visually see the meter change where it is wet and dry in the same pot. We have 3 of these meters and swear by them. One key is to make sure you set up the meter where the needle maxes out at the level where you believe the soil is wet enough. It is fascinating especially in new beds to water the soil for hours then put in the probe and see all the dry zones.

Can this be left in place outdoors, long-term?

We do not recommend leaving the moisture meter in place outdoors, long-term. Our recommended use for the moisture meter is spot checking moisture then storing the meter in a cool dry place.

Is this Meter designed for Lawn and Flower Beds use?

Yes, as much as any water meter would be. Depending on how compact your soil is under your lawn and how deep your flower beds are loosened will determine how deep it will go but as robust has this meter is designed, it will go as deep if not deeper than any other meter.

How sturdy is the probe? I've had several different kinds and the first thing to go is the probe bens at the meter before anything else breaks.

I have had many of these. Not this brand but the same type of sensors. If that thing pops out on removal. Take some liquid glue. I used “Guerrilla brand liquid” and it will work. This has happened on the first pull and the 1000th. But you get what you pay for, with the option of making it what you wanted to pay for. They are cheap and are turned out at a rate I couldn’t imagine. Bottom line. They all do it. And as long as you hot glue or whatever it back inside the tube with messing up the wires it will work fine
