Very cute book - perfect for showing children how other children around the world live.
This is a perfect picture led book for school aged children. The fantastic illustrations show daily life of a selection of seven to eleven year olds from around the world (Iran, Italy, India, Japan, Peru, Russia and Uganda). We can compare different buildings the children live in, what they eat, what they wear, how they travel to school, what their class rooms look like and how they relax after school. This book is perfect for helping young school aged children to discover how children around the world live. The main text is short and simple, so this book would work for age 5+ (especially if being read to).Just when I thought that this was a wonderful work of fiction based on general facts, at the end of the book are photographs of the children from the book with their families. Wonderful stuff!

Beautiful book - wonderful gift
bought this for my daughter (10) and neice (12) who both love the book. It's well written and pleasing illustrations which are beautifully and carefully drawn. A big success. Interesting to see how other families live and what they eat etc around the world. Highly recommend.

Brilliant!
This is a fantastic book. Simple yet totally engaged my 5 year old in the lives of other children around the world. The beautiful illustrations and structure of the book had her totally engrossed in the different cultures and way-of-life of children. We had read over and over again and she was even inspired to write her own version using the details of her life. Highly recommend as not only a lovely gift but educational as well.

Informative
This is a great book detailing the life of children from around the world, each double spread explores a different aspect of life from the different countries, such as what the children eat for breakfast, what they wear to school, what they do in an evening. This book illustrates both similarities and differences between the lives of children in different countries. It’s great for opening up a child’s world.

Lovely concept
I love the concept of this book and it was interesting to read with my children and compare our lives here in the UK. We are also part Italian and were surprised to see 'zabaglione' (egg/sugar drink) on the breakfast as this is only something had for breakfast as a once in a blue moon treat therefore I question the accuracy of the other cultures. I would have liked to have seen something about celebrations such as Birthdays and I think the families could have contained more diversity such as mixed races and a same sex couple.

I bought this because it was recommended in the Guardian
I bought this because it was recommended in the Guardian. My 3 year old daughter loves the CBeebies programme Where in the World so I thought this looked like the book equivalent and it absolutely is. Apart from a few Americanisms, it's a brilliant way to get her interested in children in other countries in a way that she can totally relate to. It's a beautifully illustrated book that she won't grow out of for a long time.

Lovely book to show some of the differences and some of the similarities
I used this book in reception and selected several pages to focus on. The children enjoyed seeing how others lived and it was used as a basis for them to write about themselves. The children were not expected to read it themselves as it was read to the whole class.Although based on the lives of real children and their families it would have been nice to see some more diverse families in this book. Perhaps next time...
