Excellent looks - and also saved my phone.
I'll admit that I bought this case more for the looks than for the protection. I like the color, the leather accents on the back, and the overall look and feel of the case as a whole. That opinion changed somewhat after I dropped the phone a few times - the case always provided good protection and the one time that I dropped it on its face the slightly raised four corners perfectly protected the glass front from breakage. Then came last Sunday 3/31 - I took off my jacket while getting in my car and set the phone on the roof (idiotic, I know). I got in the car, drove away at about 45-50 mph and heard the clunk when the phone bounced off my trunk and hit the street at full speed. Lo and behold, other than a few small abrasions at the very bottom right corner of the screen the phone was perfectly intact. To say that I am happy I bought this case is an understatement - it worked perfectly! When I upgrade from the S8+ to whatever phone is next I am definitely buying another UAG case. Thanks!

First UAG case: Almost perfect for my S8 +
Why I BOUGHT ITI never buy Verizon screen protectors and cases from their store but because of the s8+ reviews about cracked screens, etc., I decided to forgo my usual Amazon case/screen protector search and reviews and the let the salesman put on tempered glass and a Tech21 case. Right away, I noticed degraded sensitivity on the screen, and I had to push way too hard on the Power and Volume buttons. Ridiculously hard. The only thing I liked about Tech21 was the anti-slip back, which I hadn't even noticed until I compared it with the UAG later. (Because of the screen sensitivity issue, I ordered the Gadget Gear Black Ice liquid screen protector based on a YouTube video, still to be received. Since I bought a little extra insurance with Verizon, I'm pretty sure it will work fine with the UAG.)UAG PROSThe buttons are so much easier to press than the Tech 21. What a difference. The side grip is great, and there's not a lot of bulk. The case snaps right in.10 year warranty.UAG CONSIts side lips are higher than Tech21's but still don't curve up over the edge. However, the top and bottom lip heights are perfect. Very high.UAG Monarch's back does not have anti-slide material, which to me—for their top-of-the-line and most expensive case in terms of protection—is disappointing. But, I'm keeping it.Only one color. My s8+ is black with a beautiful silver back.I would love to see a UAG Monarch with a clear back that's ant-slip. I tested the Tech21 and the UAG on my couch and glass coffee table, and the UAG slipped off easily with a little nudge; the Tech21 didn't budge.THE CONFUSINGI like Made in America and won' buy some Made in China products when it comes to safety. I feel confident that all or 99% of the products I've bought on Amazon are authentic, and I read reviews. But for some reason I thought UAG cases were made in the USA. Checked their website and searched Google but nowhere could I find where it's manufactured. The box says "Made in China" on the bar code, and has "Made in China, patent pending" embossed on the inside of the case toward the bottom in small letters; however, the UAG logo and name are clearly embossed on the inside as well (larger print).I asked a question about this on Amazon, and Jeff Miller responded that he checked the shipping and found UAG ships from from Hong Kong, so I'm pretty sure this is authentic, even if made in China. I'd just like to know and hope this seller responds to this question. At any rate, I really like the case. None of the other rugged cases I reviewed had high enough sides, many reviewers noted, including Otterbox, the Zizo Bolt and the <something> Beetle case, so I think the s8+ is hard to find a rugged case for. But I'm keeping the UAG Monarch and returning the Tech21 and Tempered Glass to Verizon.

They know what they are doing with this product!!
UPDATE (as of September 11th 2020)Still using the same phone case and going strong. Probably dropped my phone a million times by now (not using a screen protector either) and it's been absolutely amazing at keeping my phone safe. Not a scratch anywhere.October 23rd 2017 - For someone who is very prone to dropping phones and paying for screen replacement time and again over the past few years this case is truly a holy grail. Although it's not classy/feminine I love the security it provides. I don't even feel the need for a screen protector after I purchased this case. The grip is also very good!! I was very hesitant when I initially saw the price but I'm more than happy with my purchase. I'd gladly buy it again in the future if need be (although it doesn't look it's gonna break anytime soon). I have had it for close to 6 months now and already dropped my phone like 50 times with no issues what so ever.

One of the best, if not the BEST case for S8+
I believe this may be the best case for the S8+. It's a little thicker than another case I purchased at the same time (Spigen, which is also a great case, btw), but I like the traction texture on the edges of the UAG case, and the slightly more prominent ridges at top and bottom for holding the screen on the surface of the table (facedown.) I have big hands, so this case just feels better to me, and I also want the maximum drop protection just in case, though I am extremely careful of my equipment. My son dubbed my two cases "Farm Case" for the UAG and "City Case" for the Spigen. :) This UAG case is an expensive one, and I would wish for more color choices, but it is very good looking, and I have confidence that the drop protection is there, particularly on the reinforced corners. Would I buy it again? Yes.

UAG did not protect the phone as advertised. Spigen tough armor did a better job for less price.
just a background I have been using spigen tough armor case since I got the galaxy s8+ day 1 after release and never had issues with the case and the phone until recently bought the case after reading /watching reviews about the UAG monarch series. Order arrived on Sunday afternoon Immediately switched out my spigen tough armor case and used this monarch case fast forward to monday 06/12 I dropped my phone from no more than 3feet height and after checking I see theres a rainbow damaged effect of my screen. never had problems after I dropped my phone using the tough armor but after just one drop with the UAG my phone got damaged not even 24hrs into using the product. Product did not help protect my phone as advertised which is really saddening because I was looking forward to using this case and now Im let down. Currently in the process for asking a refund to return this product and ill just go back to my older case. Now im stuck with a damaged phone.
