Must try!
Oh my goodness, what a blast! 🎉 Racing with over 20 customizable characters like Lightning McQueen, Jackson Storm, and Cruz Ramirez is an absolute thrill! The tracks are set in the most iconic locations from the movies, like Radiator Springs, and they are stunning! 🌟I love that there are 6 different game modes to keep things fresh and exciting. Plus, the Battle Race mode is a total game-changer! Competing against family and friends to claim the title of Ultimate Champion has led to some epic showdowns. 🏁With a mix of training and skill, every race feels like a new adventure, and anyone has a shot at victory. If you're a fan of the Cars franchise, this game is a must-try! 🏆🚗💨

A definite win!
My six year loves this game! He gets to play as his favorite characters and earn rewards. This is not only great to entertain him, but also use his cognitive skills to create winning strategies. Difficult enough to engage him and easy enough not to discourage him. A true win!

Bought to play with my 7-year-old nephew and he loves it
It's nice to have a game. You can play with a kid that you don't have to worry about any of the content. It's just fun racing of cars characters with a couple of different modes. Nothing to have to worry about in regards to content, language, music, anything like that. Just an overall fun, simple and innocent racing game.

Daggum, it's like the Cars 2 game without the Cars 2.
So first off this is the first game in the series in six years and is done by the same team who made Disney Infinity. If you played Infinity 3.0 Speedway(made by Sumo who made the Sonic Racing series) this game will be very familiar. It is basically all the same mechanics further realized with much bigger tracks. If you liked Speed way or Cars 2 you will probably like this. If I'm lyin, I'm cry'in.As for the rookies. The races are Arcade like with rewards for stunts and drifting by giving you "boost". Think Mario Kart with more jumping, short cuts, and tricks and less on the technical racing.(like driving backwards which is a thing) That said there is far more rubber banding with the AI than say Mario Kart, but the AI does attack one another so they are not completely mindless. The difficulty is good for kids of any age. There are a few different race types. There is normal racing, battle racing(with weapons), battle mode(a destruction time attack), Stunt mode, bosses, and a open area to practice and/or notch off things on the check list. Ahh, the check list. It is fine at first but gets annoying. You need to do things like run a lap driving backwards, complete four stunts while in air, drift for 10 seconds, 30 seconds, and on it goes. To check off 130+ things seems a bit much. Why do you deal with this. To unlock most of the cars 20. And you don't really know who you're aiming to unlock. My kids did get annoyed I couldn't just unlock the ones they wanted quickly. There is multilayer split screen as usual, and a poor attempt at car customization. The combat is deep enough for a game like this. Each weapon has it's advantages. Collect enough boost and get "in the zone" and you can absorb any weapon strike. Yes, that's on the check list too.Shoot, the cars roster don't make no sense... Sigh, there are only around 20. Cars 2 had 50! with all the DLC and 29 without. 20? For the 3rd game? What? You have the new cars like Cruze and Storm. Though Storm as a character is lame compared to Chicks or Francesco. They are missing Sheriff, Sarge, Red, Fillmore, King, any Car from Cars 2(the gane really could have used Francesco, Holly, and Raoul), I mean what? This is odd because for Pete sake they have tracks from CARS 2 that are simply updated graphically. They have Guido, but NO Luigi. They have Ramone with no Flow. This like making a massive character inspired Disney based hub game with Mickey, Minnie, and Donald and not having Pluto or Goofy. Wait... Is this like a thing with Avalanche Studios? As for the track themselves they are sprawling to say the least. Imagine an Infinity or Mario Kart race that takes over 3 minutes at times to complete a lap and the scenery and obstacles varied. You can go from snow, to road, to dirt, to under ground, in the air, to dirt, to snow. The action is all over and can get confusing driving through the crazy 8 course. All this makes the tracks seem big and long. There are 20 tracks in all, and they have some of the best use level design I have scene in a game like this. For all the downfalls this game has consistently great tracks. Each track is unique, true to their source material, and fun. There are places straight out of the movie that ram through and speed past. You also have a little hub world, but it is no where near as good as Cars 1 or Mater National that let you free roam Radiator Springs. Shame they didn't do something like that as my kids really enjoy that.So performance. Well I mostly play on PC. So I can't not talk about issues I see. This can't be the max power of the PS4 1.8 tlops and we are not seeing it here. The gpu never seems to be under much load as the PS4 stays quiet. So first the good. It runs native 1080p, good textures, volumetric fog/god rays, water, dirt, ice on the cars, particle effects are nicely done, and color and reflections are on point. Now for the downside 30fps(not ideal for a racing game), slight frame rate drops causing brief stuttering(it's not common though), seeming little to no antialiasing, no ambient occlusion, very low shadow quality, and low draw distance for a game like this. Don't get me wrong this game can look really good at times, and is a major step up from Cars 2 on 360/ps3 or Mater National on PC. But I think the Xbone/PS4 where deigned quickly together and the PS4 was given no advantage, as the WiiU, Switch, are 360/ps3 ports. The Switch got Matters wrong headlight for sure. There is no PC version and after one of the worst ports of all time Cars 2 I am fine with that. Even on the PS4 this was obviously rushed as the mini map gets cut off by my TV, and yes the screen is properly fitted under PS4s settings. It's the game.Sound and Music drove off the track and into a cactus. The voice overs are horrible. Ramone and Chicks are the worst by far. Even with some of the original actors it still is off. Sound effects are all decent, but music is uninspired. In Mater National, Cars 1, and Infinity Speedway they actually used some of the music from the IP along with real music that fits in the property. Not here. Very forgettable. There are some great moments with tense races. A lot of action going on at times that can feel wilder than any other game in its genre. Ultimately this game is no where near as polished as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Its rosters is small with few characters of interest, the game seems rushed, and lacking any story at all outside of a few horrible cut scenes, However, the track design is overall so great, the controls are tight, and the lack of a "kart" style racer on the PS4 makes this a buy on sale in my opinion and would get 3.5 stars if it were allowed. But Avalanche should really release more cars and do some patching and this would be a 4 star game all day.
