So much better than what mobile companys give you
I got this to replace the router that 3 Three gave me for 5g home BB. But it was always dropping out. While some times it was 3 Three's networking having issues 95% of the time it was the router itself. After finding this out through so much testing i got this. And once it was set up the connection and signal had improved and the dropping out has gone down by like 98%. The only issues i have are that most of the controls are only accessable through the Deco app which is annoying as they cant be accessed through a web browser. Also while the disconnection that this router has greatly improved it still haven't while rarely it would be great if the router handled this better

Overpriced for what it is, minimal configuration and functionality
So, this router is almost twice as expensive as broadly similar routers from Huawei, ZTE and a few others. It also, at least in my case, had about half the download speed in the same location as my Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2.To be clear, this was with the internal antennas only for both, and only this one actually has an option for an external antenna. But given a decent antenna costs another 100 quid... Yeah, not for the value-consious.The interface, both in app and through the browser, is extremely basic and actually made itself more confusing to me by hiding things like dhcp settings in an obscure corner behind a sign reading "beware the lion". Setting wifi bands is right out, with only an opaque channel optimiser which didn't appear to do anything. On the positive side, in my testing it picked up my iD Mobile sim fine and made a mostly functional network basically right out of the box, and should integrate with other Deco units for a mesh network through the same app.I would recommend it for those that want a plug and play solution, except that putting in a proper antenna to get full use out of it is the exact opposite of that, so... If you want a router that takes care of setting itself up but also want to have to install a nice big external antenna for twice the price of something you also just plug in and it works but still has the options for further configuration, get this one.

Unreliable
Was really easy to setup and integrate into my WiFi network. For first few months all was good and I could run my business network off the 5G signal. However, after a while, when I was pushing the connection hard by video conferencing the unit would simply drop the signal & lock up. Months working with the technical team at TP-Link (really good by the way), changes of device and SIM cards finally seemed to sort the issue but a while later the issue came back. Looking at the community forums, many others seem to be having the same issue so not just me. I suspect that it is a thermal issue (the unit always ran hot) and that it just overheats and the thermal cut outs cut in, but the TP-Link team didn’t think this was the case.Anyway, long story short the X80 now sits on my desk as an expensive paperweight, having switched my 5G connection to a ZTE unit which seems to be working flawlessly. As for the X80-5G, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere, this is a very expensive, unreliable piece of technology.

Buyers beware, external antenna ports are for 5G ONLY!
On the whole this is a great product that looks cool, sets up really easy, offers great WIFI 6 speeds, can be used in a Mesh network and offers external SMA external antenna ports. Big problem, for me is I wanted WIFI 6, and the only routers that had this were 5G models. Not a problem, as the specs say backward compatibility with 4G networks as we’ve yet to be upgraded to 5G where I live (rural) but does future proof the purchase a little. The only problem which is a MASSIVE oversight in my opinion is the external antenna ports only works for the higher 5G frequencies and 4G can only be received by the internal antenna. Why TP-Link have decided to set the antenna ports up this way is just bizarre. So if you’re living rural and need to use an antenna (most of us do) to get decent internet speeds, avoid the TP-Link X80-5G if you are still on a 4G network.

Awesome speeds but buggy
Amazing when it works. I had an existing Deco network and replaced my old TP-Link router with this. A couple of times a day it just crashes and boots everything off the network. Resolve that and it would be perfect.

Good but way overpriced
I swapped the x50-5g I ordered for the x80 model as I wanted a phone jack onboard, (and that seems to be the only difference). Both are good units but they are way overpriced. The x80 at time of purchase was £450 and the x50 £250. Similar units are cheaper some have more features like VPN which neither of these do, so come on TP-Link reduce the price and add VPN feature. That said I like this unit but I would not recommend it due to the price.

Good
The delivery is perfect, it came earlier than date of delivery. Good router but very annoying when you move it, the power connector unplugs and you need to connect it again and wait till it's started. I also would like if configuration from browser had more features instead of mobile application.
