Q: What kind of thru deck fitting is required?

The instructions call for a 5 inch diameter hole though the deck.

Q: Does the flue build carbon and have to be cleaned frequently if used regularly?

We use ours almost every day during the winter and have only cleaned the chimney/flue once this season. It does not get much buildup. We clean the burner pot every other day though. If you don't have a barometric damper, sometimes you have to clean the fuel lines when there is a lot of wind because they can get clogged. We love our diesel heater and there's not a lot of really intensive maintenance you have to do (relatively).
