Can't close the door if stripping is on the right side more than half way down. Installed properly. Why? If air still gets through what's the point?

If the door will not close then either the stripping, or something else is obstructing it. It could be that the thickness of the stripping is too thick preventing the door from closing far enough to allow the latch to insert into the strike plate.

Is the double width 39' long or is it 19.5' x 2 single widths?

I have cut mine up, but I would say it’s the latter. Generous for one door while using the double width.

Will this kit also make a room darker? I’m trying to blackout my bedroom but light currently creeps in along the edges of the door.

It could. I would measure the crack at the widest point and see if it matches the thickness of the stripping.
