Life altering
I started with song of Achilles, expecting to be moved to tears, as everyone who recommended it told me it was heart wrenching. That didn’t begin to describe what it felt like moving through life with Achilles and Patrocalos. Miller shined a light on a love story that was always right in front of us, forcing all of us to carry this once triumphant myth, as a locket that’s weight drags with us through life. Then there was Circe, which has quickly become my favorite novel. All of the myths we see Circe skirt in and out of are woven into a seamless story about a woman learning to navigate her trauma. We watch her grow from a child, to a woman, to a witch, and each time we see her character die, rising up slightly wiser , ever more confident. There is a moment towards the end of the book where she and another character speak of their misdeeds. The other character brushes away her sins, but she tells him not to take her regrets from her. Circe‘s wisdom is so profound you must read it multiple times, with each new read you can understand more of her past because she gave you the wisdom to navigate it on your last read through. I hope there is not a single day where I do not think of what I have learned from this book.

Bought as a gift-kept for myself
They are amazing and so beautifully written. My husband got me stuck on the story of Tory, and I got hooked, so I got these for him, thinking he’d enjoy them, which he did, but I picked them up after him and made so many notes in the margins that I feel I should go back and get him new copies. :)
