Amazing fro crunch and mild overdrive
Apparently a clone or close copy of the Klon Centaur, but with a charge pump so you use a standard 9V PSU and the circuit is driven at 18volts for better headroom. I like using this with a low amount of gain to give a slight valve sounding crunch with very little fizz.Whether or not this is an exact replica of a Klon, its a great pedal and at a very competitive price.

Wow, a true gain pedal that does not spoil a good guitar tone, a rare animal indeed!
This is indeed a very good and smooth sounding gain pedal, and I have tried many.It is little surprise that Bjorn at Gilmourish.com gives it such a high rating. The difference is the addition of sustain whilst maintaining the integrity of your guitar tone.I am using a Fender Strat with vintage Fender pick-ups which sound amazing clean and this pedal provides a good level of sustain (to what after all are single coil pick-ups) without spoiling or degrading their tone.Used in conjunction with some of my other pedals it serves to produce some excellent sounds. It also takes up very little space on my pedal board as it is neat and compact. Would strongly recommend it.

Great pedal. Used in chain with electric violin
Absolutely great sound, fattens the sound of my electric fiddle, gives a nice clean boost. I can dial in a bit of crunch for when the drummer has annoyed me.

Soul food pedal EHX
The sound of this pedal is extremely good. it's (very) modest price makes it incredible value for money. It's strength is in the lower drive area, Clon clone? Yeah.. Pretty much.It gets noisy as a clean boost, other pedals do it better. As a very very transparent drive I don't think anything matches it in the sub £200 arena. I use fulltone pedals a lot and this sits very comfortably with those.

Does this new EHX pedal sound like the fabled Klon Centaur that apparently inspired its circuitry
Does this new EHX pedal sound like the fabled Klon Centaur that apparently inspired its circuitry? I have absolutely no idea. What you do get is a fantastic clean boost with loads of headroom that livens up dynamics and peps up transients, plus beautiful 'touch-sensitive' overdrive that teases out harmonics but doesn't overly colour the sound of your guitar, with a tone control that actually works. Even at very subtle settings you immediately miss it when you switch it off - this is a pedal that deserves to be part of your core sound. With that in mind it's worth remembering that EHX include a power supply, something many much more expensive units fail to do. At this price, you really can't go wrong. I can't wait to try out some of the other new EHX drive pedals. Meanwhile, this is highly recommended - as long as it's subtlety that you want.

Makes sound 'BETTER'
I will add my 2 cents worth. I love using this with my blues junior, just kinda livens up the chords or lead lines nicely by poking the amp a little. Nothing too drastic though but that's why I love it, it just makes the guitar tone BETTER! You can really subtly adjust the tone too with the drive dial. Is just a great pedal to liven the sound if you're not a fuzz head or distortion dude. It's the drive pedal that puts tone at the focus of the sound. It is my go to pedal for most songs or practice sessions with the boys.

Not worth the money
My DigiTech multi effects box failed, it had 40 effects most of which I don't use so I thought why not get my favourite effects on stomp boxes. This has got lots of excellent reviews and I've watched a number of impressive videos on Utube. What is it? It's a preamp that overloads your amplifier input to give varying degrees of distortion via it's drive knob. It also has a treble boost knob. The problem is you have to turn your amp up LOUD to get the nuances heard in the videos. At low practise volumes it's , well, underwhelming, unlike the DigiTech which works just as well at low and high volume. And at twice the price of a DigiTech? I think I'll buy another Digitech.
