Informative but not overwhelming
We bought this before a trip to London so that our 9 year old and 5 year old could learn a bit about the city before we went. The book manages to be informative, without being overwhelming. It was enough information for my 5 year old to take in, but my 9 year old would probably have preferred a bit more detail. I'd say it's a good introduction to London and its history for 4 to 8 year olds.

'See Inside' books are great!
We have several of these Usborne 'See Inside' books, including ones on Science, Houses Long Ago, Space and How Things Work. These books are excellent in providing kids with lots of information in an easy to digest and fun way. My daughters are 6 and 10 and they both use these books for getting information for school work as well as just for a fun reading experience. I would recommend this series of books to anyone with children (and I have learnt a fair bit from them too!)The 'See Inside London' book shows a broad sweep of how London has evolved over the years and gives information on important times in the history of London, like the great fire and the plague. There are so many children's books on London but I think this one makes the facts interesting and accessible, especially as you can choose how many flaps to lift and therefore how much info you have to read. There is a good sprinkling of humour in the book too, which is effective in keeping the chldrens' interest long enough for them to learn lots of stuff about history.

Excellent Book
I came across this book recently whilst browsing Amazon to get ideas for my daughter's 6th birthday. This had a few good reviews and as she loves reading and books I took a chance. She absolutely loves this book and has already read it cover to cover twice in the few days that she has had it. She can now regale me with interesting facts such as the tudors used to eat swan's brains! I think this is one that will keep her interested for a long time - I was a bit doubtful about the board book format and worried that she would think a board book a bit beneath her at six but it is definitely a book for older children - I guess it needs to be in this format for the lift the flap aspect. I am going to be ordering another copy for my nephew's birthday in September. Highly recommended

Lovely sturdy information filled book.
My daughter is in year 2 (age 6) and has recently done a topic on the fire of London. She was delighted to receive this book. It is a very sturdy hardback book packed with information. The illustrations are very detailed and there are flaps, quite hidden on all of the pages. Each time she read the book she found more flaps with further information hidden underneath. The contents are Ancient London, The Middle Ages, Tudor Times, Fire and Plague, After the Fire, Smoke and Fog, Under Attack and London Today. On a recent visit to London she was practically able to give us a history lesson due to this book!

See Inside London
The text is informative and in small chunks plus there is a lot of information in the pictures. The many flaps to lift provide added interest. This combination makes it a good choice for a younger child who enjoys books, to share with an adult and also for an older reluctant reader. I bought this book for an active eight year old boy who enjoys being out and about in London and does not naturally pick up and read a book.

Excellent for introducing history to kids
Beautifully laid out and illustrated.A real Usborne classic.Bought for a 6 year old, studying The Great Fire for KS1 in year 2 - but would equally be fine for older children, as the information is far from babyish - don't be fooled by the presence of flaps! It may look like a press schooler board book from the outside, but inside it is packed with useful historical information about London through the ages, as well as the usual smattering of fun, Usborne anecdotal bits.Would definitely recommend. My daughter is 6.5 and often picks it uo as her bedtime reading book, it is that good.
