Cerebral, artistic, different.
Hooked from my first game. A cerebral experience that is both mentally taxing and rewarding in equal measure. It really is a step above some other card games I have played. On a side note, the theme and art on the cards is simply spectacular.

Beautiful artwork
I’m afraid I can’t comment on the game play as I gave it as a gift but the artwork is stunning

Super game, but Core set box could be better.
THE GAME:L5R LCG is an amazing game that will ask a lot of you during deck building and game itself. Deck building will require you to choose wisely between clans and card you want that will get a good synergy between themselves. Game will test you on making the most of the situation and how far you can go to just win a conflict or to destroy a province. There will be randomization as you have two decks of 40-45 cards and you are likely to not see all different cards you have, even by building your deck with sets of 3 copy of the same card (limit of admited copy, recomanded to always use for deck building).THE BOX:The box itself contain everything you need for two player to play a simplified version of the game. Which is nice if you have a pal to play with and learn the (hard to learn) rules of the game. However, you cannot make the best of your cards as all clan cards come only in one copy and most of the neutral one comes by 2... If you want to have copies of other card, you will have to trade them (i-e trade your Crane and Scorpion core set to have two Lions to build your deck properly, plus trade some other cards to have your 3 neutral) or get your handson two other copies of the core set, which start costing quite a lot... Just for having core set. It is a shame that the core set does not even permit to even build an official deck, even a non competitive one...LCG, WHAT IS IT?LCG stands for Living Card Game. In term of card costing, that mean there is no such things as "booster". when you get an expension set, you always get the same cards, which also mean if you want a particular card, if you can't have it by trade, you are certain to have it on e specific expansion. Those expension also always have a story. The funny thing is that the lore of the game is living with it's competitive scene. An official match happen, the match scenery is the base of a new entry in the lore, the next expansion is based on this story.

Most deck need 3 sets
Nice box and art, but requires multiple copies for competitive decks.

Probably one of the best games I own
Probably one of the best games I own. It is very versatile in the different strategies you can use to come out victorious. I recommend buying multiple copies so you can create your own deck with multiple copies of the good cards :P

Solid (limited) intro to the game.
As a fan of Netrunner (also by FFG) I picked this up at a recent game convention when I saw how many people were actually playing it (loads - and they all seemed to be enjoying it!). It's a really interesting game - with some cool mechanics that make typical card game brawlers look very simple by comparison (which could be a positive or negative depending on your preferences.. I love it!). The card art is great - and consistently so - but being a FFG game - this is probably no surprise. Will this set have you deck ready for tournaments? No. But then show me a system that would. The big name is Magic the Gathering - and I know for sure that you would have to thump substantially more than the £30 represented here for a competitive deck. I'm not sure you could do it for much less than £100 standard, and closer to £300 - £400 for reasonable legacy decks (and to be clear - that's a single deck of cards). 3 L5R core sets (£90) would give you seven... SEVEN... separate decks - that would be good enough to see you compete. Even then - with the addition of smaller expansion packs here and there (you don't have to buy them all - just the ones most relevant to the deck you want to build,) and the fact that you can splash different cards throughout your clan deck to individualise even further - you have a ton of comparative value and replayability.Don't pay any attention to any ridiculously low protest reviews - there's more than that here to enjoy.. an as an 'introductory' experience - I'd say this was at least a 4/5 if not higher. But if you want to play others at meets and game shops, you might need to invest further. That said - there is so much content, you and a friend could buy a core each and trade clan cards to each other (pick your fave and swap the spares), and you would create 3 to 4 decent decks each.To summarise - it's a cracking game with bags of potential. Issues with pricing fall into insignificance when compared to its competitors... and the price here is fair for what you get as an intro to the game (tons of cards, tokens, widgets etc..).

just enjoy it and level the palying field for everyone
Nothing wrong this the product but its wasteful and criminal to expect people to buy 2 or 3 boxes. One is enough, just enjoy it and level the palying field for everyone!
