Easy to install, great price
Seagate drives are in many macs/pcs so their reliability is as good as any. This one gave me the storage I wanted at a price that was highly competitive. Easy to install, it got me back up and running in no time. That's why it's highly recommended.

So Far So Good
I bought two of these a few weeks ago and I've really only used one of them to any extent. Genuinely new. original factory sealed anti-static wrapping with all the correct authentication labels and stickers. The seller packaged them very well with plenty of padding so they arrived in perfect condition.Quite simply: no problems. I've never had trouble with any Seagate ITB HDDs, in fact any new Seagate HDD I've owned and so far that continues to be true.Although the two Seagate HDDs received are as listed they're slightly different in design from the accompanying listing photos. The label in particular is a different colour and specifies it as a recently manufactured AF (Advanced Format) type. It should be good for any purposes a HDD might be required for. However one of the things I've had trouble with using another make of HDD, a WD, also specified as an AF type, is for cloning an existing Windows OS on an older HDD. It is a bit of mystery exactly why that is happening but it seems to be to do with the external USB enclosure I was using. There's some sort of USB incompatibility as the problem is resolved if you connect it up internally via SATA.I must make it clear this is only when it comes to this particular cloning task and is probably very niche.Anyway the point is I've not yet tried the Seagate AF ones for this purpose. So if that is what you are going to use them I can not confirm whether or not they're suitable. They work fine in an USB external housing for backup, storage or whatever. That I can confirm because it is what I've been doing with the one I've been using most.

Why wasn't the drive cleaned prior to sale?
This was bought as a like-for-like replacement for a second drive in a Windows PC. The PC was being passed on to a relative, and I wanted to replace the data storage unit. The drive (shipped from Germany) arrived in a cardboard box with bubble-wrap top and bottom. There was no padding to protect the sides of the drive. The drive was enclosed is an unmarked sealed antistatic bag.I was expecting a used drive that had been cleaned and ready for use. It was confusing that the box was marked 'New', and the drive was in excellent condition. However, the drive was manufactured in 2016 and was obviously pre-owned.What I didn't expect was over 300GB of data folders / contents, many named in apparent Chinese characters. These were immediately deleted with a quick format. After further investigations it was apparent there was further content on the drive. This appeared to be a hidden partition with Windows files. However, this didn't affect computer operation, and extensive AV checks revealed no issues. The Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 drive was silent in operation, was apparently in good condition (no bad sectors) and displayed a 931 GB capacity.Overall, I'm satisfied that this was a good purchase.

Not Good
Unfortunately received faulty hard drive, always check drives with Crystal disk before using and this highlighted the fault, therefore sent back.

Quiet, and fast.
I've used Seagate drives for years now. They're quieter than the WD Black - those things have noisy head movement in comparison - I know because I bought two of them at the same time as these Seagate drives so I could compare them myself. There have been quality issues in the past (the early batch single platter 320GB 7200.11 model springs to mind!), and there will always be the odd bad drive from any manufacturer. The two I ordered are working perfectly in a striped hardware RAID array (another advantage over the post-2009 WB Black drives, which are NOT suitable for hardware RAID, eg in a NAS box).If you want a quiet, fast and reliable drive, this is the one. If you are unlucky enough to end up with a bad one, send it back for a replacement. Don't assume they are all bad!

It's a good drive
For the price and "£ per MB", I think it is very good value. Is it quick, well it isn't an SSD or a hybrid drive, but it shows my load limes are faster, compared to my 500GB SATA II drive, but maybe that's all down to this being an SATA III drive? maybe 20%.I use my pc almost daily, so things tend to clutter up a bit with temp files, so I defrag maybe 2-3 times a month, and Norton cleans up temporary files for me, so I keep my system fairly clean / as streamlined as possible.considering a 2nd one, for a RAID array.

Gets the job done
Surprisingly this is the noisy component in my build. For a hard drive it just gets along well with the system.Performance is nothing to shout about. I was aiming for a silent system, but you can hear it when you boot as the platters spin inside, again not loud but just because all other components are silent.I am guessing only an ssd could avert that problem. Well for the time being it will have to be enough for me.
