Best bang for the buck for a 40gbps mini hub!
Didn't try it with my Mac but works flawlessly with my new Mini PC (Ryzen 9 Minisforum). Getting 3175msps down and 3125mbps up from a 4TB Lexar NM790 NVMe drive in a Zike enclosure. Those rates are slightly better than I saw with a CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element hub. If you have a 40mbps (USB or Thunderbolt) port, you can't do better than this for the price for a fast and reliable 40gbps hub. Can't wait for a Thunderbolt 5 version for my Mac Pro Mini.

Works great with old and new MacBooks
Although this product is called a "hub" I use it as a docking station to have a single cable connection to my MacBook for power in and data out. On its downstream side, it connects to my monitor and my Time Machine SSD, both via USB-C. It works great with my old 2018 Macbook Pro as well as my new MacBook Air M4. When using it with a Thunderbolt 4 SSD, I get identical read and write speeds with the drive connected to either the hub or directly to my laptop.Price is significantly lower than most Thunderbolt 4 hubs or docking stations.Other reviews complain about cables falling out, but I don't have that problem.Highly recommended!

Good as a small, powered USB-C hub.
I got this not because I needed Thunderbolt expansion, but because I ran out of USB-C ports on an M2 MacBook Pro. I bought an Anker bus-powered USB-C hub and tried plugging in the following items, all of which work fine when plugged directly into the MacBook: KeyChron V5 Max keyboard, Anker C300 videoconferencing camera, Microsoft Modern USB Speaker, and Elgato StreamDeck MK.2. Well, none of them worked through the Anker hub, not even when that was the only device plugged in (they had at least some power, but wouldn't communicate). With this OWC Thunderbolt hub, all of them work perfectly right away. So it's a little expensive as a USB-C port expander, and I wish it had a few more ports available, but it works great. I assume the Thunderbolt part works as well if you have high-speed peripherals, but I didn't need it for that. One thing is I wish the computer connection port was on the rear, it's a little messy plugging stuff into both sides. Also the power brick (which is at least in-line and not a wall wart) is quite large, actually larger than the device itself.

Works great, wish it had more ports
I have three of these stacked on top of each other. They only offer 3 additional USB-C ports, and if you need more than that you're losing 1 of those so you can daisy chain another to it. So 3 of these still only gives me 7 USB-C ports total. It uses 1 from my Mac Mini, so really THREE of these only offer me a 6-port increase. So for the money you're only getting 2 extra Thunderbolt 4 ports per device. Why can't OWC (or anyone else) just offer one with 6 Thunderbolt ports? They've been reliable. The only problem I've had is that some SSD's require more power than these hubs can handle. SanDisk Professional SSDs will be VERY flaky attached to these due to not getting enough power. Other SanDisk SSDs seem fine.Would I get it again? I don't know. There are devices offering 6 ports now from unknown Chinese manufacturers, and while they wouldn't be as reliable as OWC, they're tempting due to only be 2x the price of this device

Typical of OWC. Well designed and constructed but you are paying for what you get

Short Life Span
I had originally purchased the OWC 5 Port Thunderbolt Hub when I purchased the M1 Mac Mini upon it's initial release. I immediately had problems with the supplied long Thunderbolt 4 cable that connects the unit to the M1 Mac as the cable failed to firmly seat and would literally fall out of the port. I contacted OWC concerning the issue and was told that I needed to purchase a set of 4 braces held in by supplied thumbscrews that cost $20 for a set of 4. I was baffled as to why the braces were not included with the hub since the hub was already fitted with threaded female openings to accommodate the screws. I must add that the supplied long thunderbolt cable with this unit was the actual culprit as it was manufactured too small because every other thunderbolt cable that I received with my external drive enclosures fit the ports on this hub perfectly and without the use of those "stupid" braces. So I just purchased the new M4 Mac Mini Pro upon it's release which replaces my M2 Mac Studio that replaced my M1 Mac and as it goes during this process the OWC 5 Port Thunderbolt Hub completely died for no apparent reason. After researching possibilites I learned that there was plenty of documented cases with owners who had experienced exactly the same problems with cables falling off and the unit eventually dying after such a short period of time. Ironically I decided to repurchase the exact same hub due to it's much lowered price and because I will eventually purchase thunderbolt 5 hubs & drives to accomidate my M4 Mac Pro and it's Thunderbolt 5 ports. I should add that the new unit that I purchased also came with a suppled longer TB4 cable and it actually fits!
