A stark vision of human nature
I'm not a fan of all the zombie silliness out there and almost stopped watching this series after it began to veeri in that direction. But the characters, the acting, and overall production values sucked me in. (The fact that I had to pay Prime $20 to watch it maybe had something to do with it too). The story was a good one, well-told. and it's dark take on human nature rang true for me, as did the endearing hope for an uplifting ending. Recommend.

If you're not a gamer nerd or homophobe, you'll love this show.
This is a good show meant for real audiences. I read all the one star reviews on this show and they were either from people who were purists about the game, which is far inferior to the TV show, or people who were offended by the mildest display of homosexuality in the show. This show is grounded without being tragic or dreadful. There's a masterful story-telling at play here which, for the most part, doesn't rely on cheap thrills or tricks. It's not a pitch-perfect show - the protagonists are a little TOO powerful at times, reminiscent of the unfortunate gaming roots of this IP, but the proceedings are otherwise realistic for the most part.Important to note - this is not a zombie show - not really. Yes there are these fungal zombies that pop up every now and then, but the show is really about people and how they break down (or don't). It's an incredibly character-driven tale so if you're in this for cheap zombie thrills, go back to The Walking Dead.

Superb acting by Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett
Love the video game, love the story of Bill and Frank, and love the script writing. It was handled beautifully and the chemistry between the two fills your heart. If love is not your thing, then all one needs to do is not watch, or change the channel, or rant about it on your favorite blog. Just a few options to peacefully protest against love.

If you're a fan of the games, you'll love this even more
I literally just finished the first game on PC(and am playing it over again because it's amazing)The writers did a great job keeping it canon with the game- They deviated a little bit but it made so much better because of it(You'll know it when you see it)The actors and actresses did an amazing job with their roles.I liked how they went more in-depth with some of the characters backstories. The CGI for some of the unique creatures were excellent(Even gave me some chills down my spine at times)The music was very well done for each setting. And speaking of Setting: The places they filmed were perfect and some were honestly stunningly beautiful.Like I said, if you're a fan of the games, you NEED to watch this.I truly hope they come out with Season 2 based off of the second game.

I love this apocalypse show with a heart
It might seem like The Last of Us is about a fungal infection-fueled zombie apocalypse, but it's really about broken people coming together and healing, finding a family and purpose through tragedy and humor. The show is a combination of scary, sweet, funny, suspenseful, and tragic, and shows the worst and the best of humanity when society breaks down.I watched the whole thing in two days, and have already re-watched it two more times. It is definitely in my top 5 favorite shows at this point.[very minor spoilers]The main character Joel is a man devastated by the loss of his daughter, who slowly and reluctantly begins to heal while taking 14-year-old Ellie across the country and protecting her from the many dangers along the way. Pedro Pascal is superb as the haunted and bitter Joel, and Bella Ramsey gives Ellie poise and a wonderful sense of humor.

One of the best shows I've seen in a long time
The writing is absolutely phenomenal. I've watched the show through twice, which I almost never do. They took such care to fully develop the characters and the world. It's so easy to make a zombie show poorly, making all about the suspense and action. There's plenty of suspense and action, but also such rich world-building, character journeys, relationships, and more. The third episode, which tells the story of Bill and Frank, is one of the best TV episodes I have ever seen. I highly recommend it, including to people who wouldn't ordinarily like this genre.
