Habaneros for the Win
El Yucateco XXXTRA HOT CHILE HABANERO SAUCE. Excellent heat and quite tasty. In my opinion, this is the best habanero sauce on the market. El Yucateco makes other habanero varieties, but this is the best. Buy the variety pack and take the challenge. Me? I picked up 2 6-packs of XXXTRA HOT.So, this is kind of a readily available hot sauce. I can pick it up for about $2.62 per 4 oz. bottle at Wal-Mart, which is a great price. Usually it sells out pretty quick. When it doesn't sell out, maybe I can pick up 1 or 2 bottles. Which isn't enough. For me, anyway.I bought two of the 6-packs for under $40, delivered. About $3.33 per bottle. Worth it to you? Only you can make that call. I made the decision to go for it and I'm happy. I've got 12 bottles (well, 11 now) on the shelf and I love it. But then, I might be a little strange. . .

Very, Very Tasty!!
I have bought and tried many bottles of salsa. To my taste, most are just hot with too much vinegar, and not all that flavorful. This one is plenty hot, but it also has exceptionally good taste. Far better than any other I’ve tried.

Ok this is going into my arsenal of daily use hot sauces
Here's what you need to know: if you like the kick of habanero but don't necessarily love the flavor of habanero (like me), this is a good sauce for you. I love all kinds of hot sauces but plain habanero has always struck me as tasting off, almost like its stale right out the gate, it just has an "old" flavor that I don't particularly enjoy. But I do like the kick of the habanero so I've been known to use it from time to time. What struck me as interesting about this sauce is even though it is habanero based, it's one of the lesser habanero tasting ones I've come across. It's still there, but it's more balanced than most sauces. You get a little flavor and a lot of heat. This one kicks you quickly in the throat, there's no lead-in, it's a pretty instant hot.

A solid choice for hot sauce
El Yucateco ("one from the Yucatán") is a powerful hot sauce. After traveling extensively in the south of México, I had a hankering for the heat and tastes of the foods typical of that area. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this. There is a good deal of heat, not overpowering, and not to the detriment of the taste of the sauce. As far as characterizing the taste, I would describe it as very "earthy". You definitely can detect the habanero, but there is a complex multitude of other spices that come out after the initial heat subsides. Other sauces this hot I find sacrifice unique taste for heat. A good sign is that if this sauce was not spicy, I would still use it.I am not a very technical cook, so I cannot honestly tell you what dishes this sauce is most appropriate for. I can tell you however that it enhanced every dish I used it on, from adding heat to burritos, to making some plain rice more interesting.I would advise those sensitive to hot sauces to first test this on a toothpick. Also when cooking with it, make sure to pour the sauce into a spoon first, because a little bit of this sauce goes a long way, and the heat does take a minute or two to start to dissipate, you wouldn't want to ruin an entire dish by adding too much heat. I would most definitely buy this sauce again!
