A masterpiece
Lightweight, beautiful, a prize worth displaying or using. A steal for the price, genuine Irish blackthorn made with obvious care for quality and beauty. Highly recommend along with books about self defense with canes. You'll need a rubber toe for pavement and even to protect the wood from the elements. Those can be found right here on Amazon. Could not be more happy!

No good
The second time I actually tried to put weigh on the stick. It broke and punctured my 30 years of mechanic worn hands. So this product isn’t what it claims to be. 130 dollar waste.

Outstanding
I don’t usually write reviews but felt the need to write this one because of mixed reviews. My shillelagh is even better than I expected. Not only is it one of a kind but it is a great cane and conversation piece. It has vibrant colors and outstanding workmanship. If your shillelagh is like mine you should be very pleased.

Cheap, cracked, chipped, splintering
Cheaply coated, cracked wood, handle is not ergonomical, short, and the brass tip is silly unless you want to damage every surface you walk on.

Extremely inconsistent product
I purchased a Blackthorn walking stick a few weeks ago and was quite happy with it. The texture of the wood is rougher than I expected, and the extremely glossy black finish is not really to my taste, but the size of the stick and the shape of the handle were satisfactory. The problem came when I attempted to get a backup for another location. I finally found one that was acceptable after purchasing five and sending back the rejects. The thickness of the sticks and especially the shape of the handles has a lot of variability, and at least two that I purchased were too uncomfortable to be useful. I finally settled on a second one, that although is not as nice as the first one I purchased, is worth keeping. I suppose choosing a walking stick is a very subjective process, and if you had a bin of them in front of you you could choose one that suited you, but it seems to me that all of them should be manageable in size and weight and be comfortable to hold. So now that I have two useable sticks, some credit is due, but it was a time consuming and energetically wasteful process to find two that I (mostly) like. All this is written in light of the fact that these sticks are pricey. High price should reflect consistent high quality.

Bought this anyway
I read the reviews, saw how many of these had been returned but bought one anyway. It’s a nice stick. Light, strong, and pretty wood. However, it seems almost zero effort was made to finish the cane. Some rough sanding and paint. The handle is not really comfortable in your hand if you intend to use this for walking assistance. It’s not really long enough to be a good hiking cane either.I put a rubber bot on it so it wouldn’t slip when using.I will probably do some finish sanding on it then refinish the stain. It could be a great cane with just a little more effort. The product feels like something a tourist would want due to its provenance. Not because of its usefulness.

Sturdy irish walking stick
Just as described, purchased as a St. Patricks day gift for my husband and I think he will love it.

DO NOT BUY.
It arrived (I kid you not) pre-cracked directly in the middle and (easily) snapped over my knee the moment I tested it. I can't begin to tell you how massively disappointed I am; I had decent expectations for something this simple at a price-point...It's a stick. I doubt it's blackthorn, do not believe it was treated in any way, has a thin-coat of shiny black slapped over it, and a rough-cut copperish cap crimped loosely over an untreated tip. This is an absolute rip-off.
