Do these get firmware updates? I am not interested in a static "appliance" which will never get security updates and cause security issues.

I've had these for around a month, everything runs through the app, so i suppose if this is kept up to date, there should be no 'security' issues. No one has hacked into my table lamp yet, so it's all good

2 plugs setup with my 2.5ghz. when my phone is connected to 5ghz network, the plugs seem unavailable. do i have stay on the 2.5ghz network?

Stay on both your iPhone will pick the 2.5, 5ghz automatically. Make sure your plugs are with in range with wifi.

is this smart plug can store on/off schedules on the device . So they work even the internet is off. ?

You do need to have a wi-fi signal for it to work. Without it, you can turn the units on & off with the button on the side.

Can the sockets advise when there is a power outage, on a freezer

When there is a power outage, the smart plug will no longer be accessible. You can detect that event and send a notification to your phone, using IFTTT or other smart home automation framework.
