Does the job
Small and easily lost.... But if you keep it on the HDMI cable (presuming you don't loose that) it should be fine.Except that it does the job and runs well with barely any frames issues or quality issues.

Essential with Potential
The Aidi Mini HDMI to HDMI Adapter may appear unassuming at first glance, but in the world of compact connectivity solutions, this small device punches far above its weight. As someone who regularly switches between cameras, Raspberry Pi builds, projectors, and a rotating mix of DSLRs and tablets, this adapter has proven itself more than a one-trick pony. In this long-term review, I'll share my real-world usage across a range of devices and setups, and why—despite a few quirks—this adapter deserves a spot in any tech bag.To begin, the form factor is spot-on. Measuring only about 3.5cm by 1.8cm, it’s smaller than a matchbox and weighs next to nothing. That might sound trivial, but when you’re travelling or constantly setting up different kits, size matters. Whether I’m working at my desk or on-location doing video setups for clients, I prefer to pack light and only carry essentials. This adapter meets that need perfectly, occupying practically no space yet solving a critical compatibility issue.Let’s talk about build. The adapter is made from a combination of PVC and metal, with a finish that feels more durable than some generic counterparts I’ve tested over the years. The PVC shell provides enough flex to prevent cracking under casual stress, while the internal metal connectors ensure solid, uninterrupted signal transmission. On my Canon 70D DSLR, the connection felt secure and didn’t wiggle—a major win, especially when recording longer takes to an external monitor via HDMI.When used with the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, which comes equipped with a mini HDMI port, the Aidi adapter instantly became indispensable. I’ve tested it with both official and third-party HDMI cables and encountered no signal dropouts, ghosting, or resolution issues. It handles 1080p with ease, and although I didn’t test 4K output (the Pi itself doesn’t support it), for regular use—setting up dashboards, Kodi, or even simple programming displays—this adapter performed flawlessly.Another common use case for me is camera-to-monitor output. I often shoot video content using a Lumix G7, which has a mini HDMI port. This adapter allowed me to plug directly into a full-sized HDMI cable running to a 4K field monitor. The clarity remained perfect throughout, and even with the camera on a moving gimbal, the adapter held firm and didn’t break the connection once. That’s significant, especially considering some adapters I’ve used in the past would loosen or disconnect with even mild movement. Now, let’s talk about some practical challenges. While the adapter fits snugly, it does protrude slightly more than I’d like from the camera body or tablet. This hasn’t caused technical issues per se, but in tight spaces, like mounting on a rig with minimal clearance, it can add just enough bulk to make cable management awkward. In those situations, right-angle adapters might be more suitable. Also, despite its strength, I wouldn’t call it "rugged". I once kept it plugged into a cable inside a tightly packed travel case, and the pressure caused a bit of flex at the joint. It didn’t break, but from that point on I’ve treated it as a semi-fragile piece of gear. If you’re someone who tosses accessories into a bag without any protection, it might not hold up long-term.In terms of picture and sound quality, the performance is as good as any full-sized HDMI adapter. I ran a quick test using a camcorder and a BenQ projector to screen a home film, and both the video and audio streamed without issue. No stuttering, desyncing, or flickering. I also used it to connect a Lenovo Yoga laptop (via a mini HDMI port) to a 1080p external monitor. Again, flawless results. It’s especially useful during presentations or live events when you can’t afford even a second of visual failure. In every case, it worked as expected. That’s no small feat, considering how temperamental HDMI adapters can be when you’re mixing resolutions, signal standards, and brands.Cleaning is also straightforward. The matte PVC shell doesn’t show fingerprints and wipes clean easily, and there are no fragile or exposed circuit areas. While it lacks gold plating—which some premium options include for corrosion resistance—I haven’t seen any impact on signal quality.Despite its simplicity, this adapter is incredibly useful. I've had pricier adapters from brands like Belkin and Anker that didn't perform any better. Aidi’s version offers great value—when it’s in stock, that is. It's a shame it's currently unavailable, as I’d gladly order a few more to leave in each of my camera and Pi kits.
