Great Hardware held back by mediocre Software.
After seeking convincing reviews online, I took a leap of faith to purchase the TV since I could not find a store to demo. Especially the 85-inch model did not have any reviews online. That said the 85-inch supposedly is the only model that gets all of the 1000 nits peak brightness because of the substantial increase in mini LEDs. Moreover, the 85-inch also comes with an ADS-pro display instead of the VA panel on the smaller sizes. The ADS-pro pannel is supposed to maintain native contrast without compromising on the off-angle viewing. However, I could not confirm these through established reviewers or manufacturer documents. someone I know who also has the same model but in 55 inches had commented that the 85-inch is substantially better. unless you are used to watching on TVs that cost at least 3 times the price of the U7k then you will be impressed. Just don't expect the high lights to dazzle you, especially in an averagely-lit living room. the peak brightness of 1000nits is in the ballpark of the high-end OLEDs so if you want that eye squinting high lights you must pay at least 5 times more for the top-of-the-line Mini Leds from the likes of Sony or Samsung since the U8k which is only marginally expensive than the U7k offering 1500nits absent from the Indian markets. so yeah you can't get everything, but is it value for money? I would say it is value for money even if it costs double its price, especially the 85inches. Now coming to the Software, I don't like the Vidaa Os developed by Hinsense. I don't understand why they could not have gone with the Google Os as is offered in the American Markets. I bet Hisense agrees with me when I say that the OS is crap, otherwise, how would you explain the Firestick that was bundled with the Tv for free when it was launched. Some apps like Hot Star don't even support 4k. I mean how is this acceptable in a brand that's worth its salt? Since this TV supports both HDR 10 plus and Dolby Vision, I'd say get urself an apple tv and enjoy the tv. Last but not least, coming to audio. when it comes to TVs my opinion is that everything except the top line Sonys are just crap. I have a very low tolerance for crap sound so I can't stand anything other than a sony. even a 15-20k sound bar is going to give you an appreciable difference. but if you are someone that's never bothered about crap sound then you will be just fine without a soundbar since this Tv is one of the better ones when it comes to audio. so I guess this sums up my review. An excellent TV that can hit 90% of the highest-end Sonys and Samsungs, with one of the best value-for-money propositions that needs an Apple TV to take full advantage of. No Tv that's not an Oled or 3 times its cost is going to better this. But buyer beware, this is a fairly new brand and Mini Led is a fairly new technology, so the longevity of the TV is anyone's guess, so understand the risk involved and take a wise decision that fits you heart and pocket.
