I bought this thermometer because it reminds me of my childhood, and it works perfectly. You just need to wait about 5 minutes to read the temperature, but that’s a small detail compared to the accuracy. I recommend it if you don’t want to deal with buying batteries for a digital one. As long as it doesn’t fall, it can last a lifetime.

This product was inoperable and likely the result of poor quality control. The issue was there was no temperature reading which was likely due to the indicator (mercury) not being able to expand into the tube. To watch the response to temperature I heated a small amount of water and put the thermometer in it. The bulb immediately broke due to the expansion of the mercury. I suspect the problem was that the mercury bulb was sealed during the manufacturing process and had no place to go during expansion. So not only do I not have a thermometer, I had to deal with the disposal of the mercury. Cannot recommend this product.

Almost didn’t get this based on the reviews but am so glad I did! If you’re feeling the same and on the fence — read this!I’ve been looking for a good mercury thermometer as a welcomed alternative to constantly replacing the battery in our digital one. I was particularly hoping to find one that could read in both Fahrenheit AND Celsius and was excited to find this option in my search. This thermometer absolutely delivered! It gives you the best of both worlds, is accurate in its reading (we compared it with our digital one), and easy to reset — if this is your first mercury thermometer, the key is to carefully “shake it like a Polaroid picture” a few times to get the line back down.

Does not work properly, temperatures are always at least 100 F. My bad I didn’t see it can’t be returned. Save yourself a trouble, don’t buy this one unless you want to use it to stay home from school or work. Then you can take your chance.

Whether you put this in your mouth or under your armpit I feel this has got to be better than any of those digital thermometer. I wish I had looked for one sooner because I bought severl of the others and never had any luck. Therefore while these tend to sit around the house if you keep it in the medicine cabinet at least you know that its in a safe place or quite honestly you know your going to get a reading within a couple minutes which will be reliable and accurate. You just have to shake before each use so as to get the proper tools. Something tells me my grandmothers knew the coming of age with computers and such are only as good as the people that use them and so so correctly. You need to disinfect after each use but because it is. Glass I don’t like to handle with my shaky finger. I am very happy with this item and will get another when or if it needs replacing.

It works fine. The temperature is a little hard to read, but I can see it if I manage to get it at a decent angle.You're supposed to shake it down to below 35C before you use it, which is kind of difficult; my wrist aches a bit by the time I finally get it down low enough.I've seen some people complain that the item they received only had Celsius numbers, but the one I received has both Celsius and Fahrenheit. Maybe doublecheck the product description details to make sure you're getting the one you want.Overall, it could be a little better but it works well enough for me.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. Horrible product. It only shows CELSIUS temperature numbers but you can't read ANY temperature at all. As soon as the thermometer is removed from your mouth, the mercury, or whatever is inside it, drops back down so fast that it's completely impossible to even see where what the temp was when pulled out of your mouth. Totally worthless unless you are taking the temperature of a clear glass of water. The mercury literally drops back down to the bottom after removal in about 1-2 seconds.
