This RayBit USB speakerphone is a useful piece of kit for certain situations, primarily audio or video conferences in offices that have desktop PCs without built-in mic/speaker (unlike most laptops, which have decent built-in speakers and mic).The speakerphone is easy to use. It plugs into the USB-A port of any powered device and works straight away, without the need to install drivers. The two USB-A ports on the front are ideal for plugging in mouse and keyboard (or any other USB-A peripheral). Volume is adjusted by pressing + or - buttons on the top of the speakerphone. A mute button between the volume controls makes it easy to mute or unmute conversation.Aesthetically, the speakerphone has a retro look which I like. It reminds me of the answering machines I saw connected to landlines in many offices in previous decades. The triangular base and low centre of gravity make it physically more stable than upright speakers, which can easily be knocked over (or knocked off a desk).Green lights indicate when the speakerphone is operational and the mic is unmuted. When the device is operational but the mic is muted, the lights turn red. Simple design but effective and user friendly.The base features a circular recess for winding the cable into when you're not using the device - another simple and practical feature. The cable is a generously long 3 metres, which is the same as the stated radius of the mic's voice capture. In other words, you can safely stand up and walk around during a call and still be heard by the people on the other end, as long as you don't stray much farther than 3 metres from the RayBit unit. The built-in mic does a good job of voice reproduction and a so-so job of reducing environmental noise such as fans, passing cars, building work, etc. The speaker's sound quality is reasonable and its volume is excellent for such a small unit. You can use this RayBit device for listening to music via a laptop or a desktop PC (although it's not cost effective to buy the speakerphone just for that purpose when for the same money you could buy a substantially more powerful speaker that's dedicated to just that one task).The price is currently £99.99 - a bit steep, I reckon, for what you get. I'd put it in the £60-£79.99 price range. That's the only reason I've awarded it four stars rather than five. It's slightly overpriced and its performance can't quite justify that steep cost. Still, I like this piece of kit in terms of its looks and its genuinely useful features.

I have now had 2 of these. First worked well for about a month and then started interrupting laptop, cutting off constantly. Seller replaced the item with a new, and the replacement did exactly the same. First weeks perfect, excellent sound and microphone, and then the problems start. It's cutting, goes into on-off in quick succession, them starts to blink screen on off, until you disconnect it. I've changed USB ports, no effect. Once you remove the device, problems stop and never return. It's a device that's unfit for intended purposes.
