unbalanced output
it's a very basic circuit, and I guess it suffers from a cheap potentiometer, but the left and right channel balance is off until you turn it all the way up.

Will switch between two stereo sources/receivers
The switcher box is 8.4cm x 6cm x 2.8cm (3.3Cm taking into account buttons/dial) in size and is of metal construction. There are no leads supplied and the unit is not powered. You do get a single sided sticky pad allowing you to attach a sort of felt pad to the bottom which would minimise any vibration if for example placed on to of a music centre. You have the option of using either Phono or 3.5mm headphone jack connectorsThe unit will handle a stereo audio signal (two channels) but nothing more.I tested the unit using jacks to connect my tablet and phone the two switchable inputs and connected wired ear buds to the output. The unit worked as intended, but:• When depressing the Mute button there was still a very faint level of sound coming through.• As the output was not amplified, I found I had to have the volume dial on the unit up to max (100) any less than tis and the sound level died away quicklyo However, when I attached an amplified speaker to the output the volume control was usable, working well. The unit works as described enabling you to switch between two sources or two receivers, there is a little loss in volume which is to be expected, but this is negligible.

Oh so close
I have a thing for hi-fi, particularly budget audio where you try to get the most bang for your buck as it were.I got this switch to go with a single input valve amplifier I have to allow two devices to be switched through it.The good: it does work, switching between two inputs to one output with relatively little electronic thump. The mute and volume work but there is little (to my ears) drop in audio quality using this. However..The bad: why make the RCA holes so small? Barely any of my cables fit so resorted to cheap ones which could explain why there was a quality drop. In addition they are spaced at the standard distance meaning any metal shelled cables are likely to touch left and right. Pretty awful design here. The second issue really is a personal issue. This is essentially a straight through pre amplifier in that you have just a volume knob and input selection and yes you could use it as such. I don’t have a power amp to hand to try this but would you risk it with just this? I’m not sure but if not the volume becomes superfluous and unnecessary and it would have been good to be able to switch it out completely. It’s not a bad device - really it isn’t but those RCA cut outs are criminal for home audio in general where most people throw away their standard cables for decent quality ones. Such a shame as otherwise this is a reasonable piece of kit.
