Very nice knife! Paper sharp out of the box. I did a stop in the knife and now it's hair shaving sharp. Cuts through hardwoods like butter! Handle feels great in my hands. Might be a bit large for some hands, but easily can be sanded doqn to fit better. I like it better than my Beavercraft and mora knives. Sheath is high quality.

I am a hobby wood carver and general use with carving knives. The Hutsuls NX-1 comes with its own sheath and you can get the same version without sheath. The Knife is razor sharp out of the package. My first use was on a stick to clean up for a walking stick. The knife has a long blade and oversized handle but fit my hand nicely. It cut through the old branches cleanly. It was still sharpe but because of the long thin edge there were small nicks in the blade. Lots of sharp edge left on the blade with much use left before I attemp to put a new edge on it. Probable best on softer woods than old dried hard knots. Still a good value for the price.

I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this Sloyd knife, but I knew the Hutsul brand from purchasing their leather strops. I was not disappointed. The walnut handle is oversized and comfortably fits my large hand, which was a surprise because other Sloyd-style knives skimp on handle designs.The blade is razor-sharp right out of the box. It's hollow ground, and there are grind marks on the blade, but it won't take much work on the whetstone to remove those. The knife performed well when carving a 6" gnome and a 2" calming bird. The cuts were smooth and needed no sanding.Lastly, and probably the best thing, in my opinion, is that Hutsuls is a small home-based business that delivers a quality knife that rivals some of the best knife makers I know. They even included a leather sheath with a belt loop, whereas other brands require you to buy the sheath separately. In other words, Hutsuls has earned my business for all my carving needs.

I've been a hobby whittler for about 45 years.I just got it so this is a box opening review so to speak.The good:Shipping was fast. Seems sharp enough. The size is good. The sheath is nice. It is very light, so that is good or bad depending on your preference.The not so goood:I was a little disappointed to see "made in China" on the box. That information is not readily available in the listing. You have to use the "Looking for specific info?" search to get that. IMHO that should have been in the item specifics in the listing. Also I prefer a heavier knife with a slightly thicker blade.Overall:Although I prefer a heavier feeling knife, not factory-made. I should have known it was probably a factory-made knife based on the price, I was in a hurry for a replacement knife, so that's on me. I will give it a chance and after I use it I will update my review.

My mentor turned me on to this wood carving knife, it has become my favorite knife to use! The blade length is very nice, allowing me to use the long point to get into detail areas and is very sharp! The middle and handle area of the blade allows me to get as much carving material as I choose to remove from the wood. Having this long of a blade allows me to manipulate better with both thumbs where the normally shorter blades require your thumbs to be closer. I have two of these knives and ordered a couple of other items from HUTSULS and can’t wait to give some more reviews on their tools. Price point thus far is very fair, and any wood carver should have this in their carving kit!

Blade is really sharp out of the box. Handle feels great in hand but the issue I have is that day one with using it the blade comes out of what is supposed to be a fixed blade. This I incredibly dangerous. I reached out to customer service and have still had no response.

Good knife stays sharp. It will work for well for a new carver but a season carver will like something a little more substantial

I was in the market for a new roughout knife for a while now. I have really big hands, so the standard Mora style handle ended up leading me to bad ergonomics and a sore forearm. I mostly carve small items and rarely need a ton of roughing out, so I didn't really want to spend a ton and saw this one. Well, when I got it out it I put it into some basswood and it wasn't really good. I realized there was a spot of burr still on the blade, so I took that off and stropped it real good and tried again. Took me a minute to get comfortable with such a long blade; but when I did it really did the work like a dream.The next day, I decided to give it a bigger test. I had a small maple spoon blank that I wasn't really planning on doing anything with, but it was the hardest wood I had in the house. Again, had to figure out such a long blade and the grain of that wood but man did it really do the work like a dream. Had to strop often but that's what you get with a harder wood. The knife didn't force me to turn my wrist out at all. I think it's the angle, plus the longer blade and the larger handle that led me to much better ergonomics. After I finished for the day, I stropped it up and it would shave paper without a tear. After maple carving, that leads me to think this thing will stay good for a long, long time before I have to pull out some stones.If I could improve this knife, I'd probably thicken the handle just a bit more. I love the length of it and the edges provide a fantastic grip, but it's a little skinny for my big hands. I would also round off the back of the blade a little bit. The few times I was doing some push cuts using my opposite thumb it was rough on the thumb. Still, I was able to choke up and do some pull cuts without a lick of trouble and doing large sweeps to rough out big areas it churned along like a champ; which is exactly the two tasks I bought it for.It's not a perfect knife, but if I could give it 4.5 stars I would...it's pretty damn close. If your hands are a little smaller than mine, it could be a 5 star knife for you. At this price point, I sure couldn't ask for better.
