I use this to take core samples of my lawn it lets me know what the soil is several inches down. It also helps me to understand how much watering I’m doing and how deep it’s going one of the main problems with lawns is they get overwatered and saturated and lose their ability to absorb nitrogen, with this tool I could take samples and see how deep the roots are going and how far down the water is going after I water

The box it was shipped in was too small, so the probe had holes poked in the sides. It was missing the bolt that holds the "step" on to the tube. I did not return it, because it was too much of a hassle and I need the probe now.This item is the 40" version, but the "plunger" that pushes the dirt out is not that long. I took one section, (approx. 12") off ant eh plunger works fine.Overall, it works, but not as described.

I have borrowed soil samplers before from our feed mill, this is hands down the best I have seen! It's heavy duty and cuts through our heavy clay soil like butter. The soil pusher was a nice bonus too, just make sure you install the two pieces INTO the sampler probe BEFORE attaching them together. The hand part sits on top and the flat bottom is what will push out your soil sample.The foot pad is perfect too, and it's all really well made. I'm sending the link to my ag extension guy so he can get a good one too!
