Who doesn't like the original Uncle Ben's rice? It's absolutely delicious. And you can add things in to make a casserole like chopped onions, finely diced carrots, and chopped chicken breast meat. Of course, if you add certain ingredients, you need to reduce the water you add. I really LOVE this rice. It's like YUM YUM YUM YUMMY.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find this product...the original Ben's long grain and wild rice product at my Modesto CA Winco supermarket for the past 3-4 weeks and they cannot say if it is coming back online with them. All the other supermarkets that I checked here, Safeway, Raley's, Wal-mart and Save Mart are only carrying either the "instant" microwave or fast-cook versions which are devoid of the flavor and consistency of the "original" version. Yes, it does take longer to prepare the original version, like around 20 minutes, but is well worth the effort.I even contacted the Mars company who supplies this product and they said they were still making it but could give me no explanation why it wasn't available in my area. I also noted that this case of 12 boxes from Amazon was packaged in Canada...go figure?

It’s not easy to find anymore in a grocery store so Costco is the best to search for it. It’s a favorite in our recipe box used on casseroles

We were looking for something more natural, less expensive, and as tasty as Rice A Roni, Uncle Ben's delivered. For added flavor depth, boil in chicken or beef stock. This is a good side to use your imagination with, like adding Cajun seasoning or a little Old Bay to punch it up. We'll sautee different things to add-in like mushrooms, onions, peppers or cherry tomatoes. We've even tossed in a little jasmine, mint, or pine nuts. Plain or with pizazz, this is good stuff, or stuffing. Bon appétit!
