The Barbadian Pop Princess is BACK! 6 albums, 6 full years! That Rihanna Reign Just Wont Let Up!...she Talks The Talk!
Okay, Rihanna....everyone knows her, she has pulled the punches in music, in fashion, in style and everyone is sure to have their opinion of her! She has sold millions globally (around 80 million in over 6 years since her debut.....impressive no?!?!).People would think that by this point her career may be flagging...in reality this is a massive peak for her! In 2007/8 she hit is massive with hits such as Umbrella, Shut Up And Drive, Take A Bow, Disturbia, Plase Dont Stop The Music...to name a few! In 2009 she delivered a masterpiece album with Rated R which had massive hits - Russian ROulette, Rude Boy, Hard and Te Amo! And last year she unleashed Loud, a colourful and brash album to contrast the macabre of Rated R, the hits Only girl, Whats My Name, S&M and California King Bed came from that album! Now here, she is still on her Loud tour, and arguably has released from this album her biggest UK number one since Umbrella by hooking up with our own Calvin Harris! With We FOund love!Exhausting! But well worth the ride...and by the sounds of Talk That Talk...the hits will keep on coming! Rihanna has this quality about ehr that is very much a kinda vibe and presence Madonna, MJ, JJ and Prince endorsed in their musi (and still achieve) that style MEETS substance MEETS shock MEETS music! While RIhanna is by no means a musical legend....she has that style, that substance and drive that is so appealing and quite inspiring...sure she also doesnt have massive Christina or Barbara vocals....but she has a unique vocal....very Barbadian and raw! like grace Jones or Bob Marley endorsed in....very colourful island vocals!Talk That Talk is a massive collage of a lighter version of Erotica era Madonna....black & white, androgynous imagery and slick style! mid 80s Prince very sexual and sensual and grace jones in the late 70s! bad taste meets commercial Pop!Talk That Talk i feel while many may feel "its rushed, its too soon etc" its a cohesive album....her most since Rated R and arguably her best musically since then too!Musically it has a very underground feel, it is very Clubby and Sonic! But not typical electronic pop, it is very VERY Dancehall influenced and Island....throbbing beats and big vocals! it consumes you on play and you really HEAR those possible hits pour out!Sure it isnt a "musical masterpeice" and it isnt "defining or iconic" but i must say it is a pretty confident and brash album! An album only RIhanna can do and will be remembered for! As the leading female artist of today in Pop music! Rihanna hits it on the head!as for the songs themselves -1. "You Da One" - Confirmed as the second release from the album, it has a very refreshing feel to introduce the album. It is breezy and elegant and very catchy on many spins! Contains those raw island beats her good girl gone bad era boasted. Fantastic summery feel song. 8/102. "Where Have You Been" - An intense club infused song, it is very frenetic and boasts INSTANT HIT! It has a raw uncommercial/commercial vibe about it, and will rival Dont Stop The Music as her best Club/House song ever! And her first partnering with Calvin Harris, he leaves his imprint all over it....phenomenal. 10/103. "We Found Love" - The instant smash of the album, number one in most territories...her biggest since Umbrella and it has a very fresh instant feel vibe about it, every single listen the song gets bigger and bigger. 9/104. "Talk That Talk" (featuring Jay-Z) - On partnership for the first time since Umbrella (or RUn This TOwn in 2009) this will be a fantastic hit and very catchy....has a very Rude Boy vibe about it, but it sounds like it will be a very intense hit....very dirty too. 10/105. "Cockiness (Love It)" - The most unusual song of the album, produced by Bangladesh (Man Down on Loud!) very surreal and very instantly catchy...this is a must release....has intense urban vibes and very fast paced. 10/106. "Birthday Cake" - possibly the main dud point comes here...at just over a minute it feels rushed and random...and the hooks are very repetetive...a missed opportunity for the album. 5/107. "We All Want Love" - Here we go a bit smoother and left of centre in a nice and gentle mid-tempo here, unfortunately it isnt quite as instant as previoussongs on the album and will require more listens but in its own right it is a nice gentle recording. 7/108. "Drunk on Love" - A phenomenal sample of The XX "Intro" from their self titled album from 2009 (also worth checking out they are fantastic!) and it WORKS...a sample that WORKS! It is so raw and features Rihanna at her most vulnerable and raw! Will be a massive release i know it. 10/109. "Roc Me Out" - Another absolute banger of a song! Feels like this albums Fire Bomb/RUde Boy collided together, very catchy and instant...and also will be a fantastic release too. 10/1010. "Watch n' Learn" - Another more "forgettable" style song BUT rather breezy and gentle and uptempo. 8/1011. "Farewell" - Not quite The Last Song style from Rated R....but a powerful curtain closer ballad....as only RIhanna can know how to do. 9/1012. "Red Lipstick" - Anoher unusual song produced by Chase & Status, very Mid tempo and trancey with Dubstep influences....which RIhanna has proven many-a-time she OWNS! Some may dislike the tone of the song and its intensity but i absolutely love it. 10/1013. "Do Ya Thang" - Another catchy and bright song, very euphoric and nice to listen to, unsure if it may have release material but nontheless it is pretty instant. 8/1014. "Fool in Love" - Final song of this edition of the album, this has a very EPIC feel about it in pace like The Last Song and Farewell before it....very emotive and expressive! 9/10The album design has to be the most unusual and creative i have seen in a long time. showing how an album can work if attention to detail is ensured! It feels like a living media piece with stunning images of RIhanna let loose in New York! Very much a feel of what the album is about in terms of style and direction. Fantastic package.Overall in terms of previous releases Talk That Talk i strongly feel is up there with her best albums Rated R and good girl gone bad respectively! It has everything she is about on here....strong island sounds, old skool Pop vibes, intense club and underground in style!A fantastic album and one for repeating immediately!

better than expected
Rhianna must be the most prolific artist out there right now, album no 6 in as many years had many people wondering if she could keep up the quality in her albums, the big answer to this is yes!!This in my opinion is a more rounded and better quality album than "Loud",whilst this doesn't have anything to touch the quality of past Rihanna classics like "Umbrella" or "Only girl in the world" it is overall a far more consistent album than last years effort."We found love" is a great choice for fist single and is one of the highlights but quite why "You da one" has been chosen as 2nd single is kinda puzzling as it is one of the weaker tracks on here. My choice would have been the superb "Drunk on love"..surely a future single? or the title track helped by one Mr Jay Z, which is another album highlight. There really isn't a bad track on here (except for the lame filler "Birthday cake".. totally pointless!) and i would definitely recommend the deluxe edition over the standard one as the 3 bonus songs are all fantastic, especially the extremely infectious and bouncy "Do your thang" (another single potentially?) and the chase and status produced "Red Lipstick"Well the girl has done it again and i'm looking forward to album No 7 next year!
