How to Draw Cars Like a Pro, 2nd Edition (Motorbooks Studio) Paperback – Illustrated, May 31, 2006

My 11 y/o son is into drawing and into cars, so naturaly he started drawing cars, but he needed some help. I for one don't know what to do (not an artist), so I got this book for him, and so far the drawings he brings me are soooo much better. They are as good as the ones in the book, but it sure did give him a few pointers here and there. He loves looking at the tips, and hints in the book. All in all it made a difference to his drawings.

This book is more than you expect for the price. Yet it doesn't present dozens of techniques and methods,it showcases a lot of drawings, in different styles, lightings, angles and colors, the perfect way for theself taught beginner to take the first steps. Goes from sketching to coloring to light and shadow.I am happy with it, now I can draw shiny and reflective parts of any kind.

The book is a good resource if you are looking to get into automotive art. I do wish there were more specific step by step examples by Thom. There were many examples of other artists and styles, just would have like more from Thom. There are two great examples where Thom shows the artist how to go from start to finish.Having said this, I quickly ramped up my ability to render automotive art. I see more chrome, reflections and other nuances within a car reflection than I ever have. Never imagined that I could produce chrome reflections through art. Thom does explain the principle fairly easy.After my first 2 drawings, I actually had a request for a commissioned drawing!

I haven't read many automotive art books, but I can safely say that this is probably one of the better or best ones out there. The art is very nice and the explanations by the author are very easy to read and understand. The book is also partitioned into logical sections. Definitely a must for any aspiring automotive designer or enthusiast.

It came in excellent condition and my BF loves it.

I originally got it for our 12 year old grandson who loves to draw. He liked it so much that I got a second one for me. Now we spend time together drawing something that we both love, cars. It is fun and informative.

Very good book for learning how to draw/illustrate, detail and color render cars!Book is very well written and very comprehensively done.My only major gripe/con is that it is printed on a, somewhat, heavier recycled paper, like that found in most kids coloring books!While the choice maybe both an environmentally and economic conscious choice, I would have preferred crisper and heavier paper with more vibrant color images.The recycled paper pages I feel, will not stand the test of time for durability if this drawing reference book is always being constantly read and referred to often.This book should have be updated, reprinted and re-released in a better quality hard cover form, like its original, 1st edition version.While the knowledge, info and illustrations in this book are an invaluable resource, the quality of the presentation of all of this info is sorely lacking!The original version of this book was of better quality and presentation.While this current version is cheaper and more affordable to a larger range of burgeoning technical/car illustrators and artists, than the original hardcover version was, the original hardcover version of this book was much better and far more durable book!Maybe should have printed two versions this re-released. This version and a more expensive hardcover version of better quality printing.Tbis version just seems like a costing-cutting re-release and it feels cheap and on this level really disappoints!I know this “updated” version will not stand up to the rigors and test of time.

I've actually purchased both the first and second editions of this book. They are very similar with numerous updated drawings and illustrations. The book walks you through the various aspects of drawing cars like a professional including topics like perspective and lighting. It really did help me improve my drawing skills.
