Good quality rigid ruler
I'm happy with the quality of this ruler. I like that the zero of the scale is at the edge of the ruler. It's nice and rigid.

Geeat quality, easy to read
After using this 12 inch Shinwa, I ordered a second one (6 inch) from them as well. These are high quality, accurate, and super easy to read. I like flexible scales for some jobs but really like the rigidness of this scale, since it's easier to pick up from a flat workbench. I wear trifocals and am always jockeying my work pieces around in the light to get a read on a scale. These are so easy to read in most lighting situations, that I may buy several others to have in various work areas. Not a glamorous tool purchase, but once you use them you wonder why you didn't buy one earlier. Highly recommended.

That's not a ruler... THIS is a ruler!
If you are into crafts or other technical hobbies where accurate measurements or even just a good straight-edge are needed... THIS is THE ruler. It lays perfectly flat. It is easy to read (English / Metric sides). The markings are etched into the metal, not just painted. Will probably last a lifetime and then another. It feels sturdy / stiff in the hand, not flimsy. The 1/32 and 1/64 marks on the English side and 1/2-mm marks on the metric side are fantastic for precise measurements. It may seem trivial, but good tools make a big difference... even "just a ruler." Spend a couple of extra dollars on this PRECISION ruler and be done with it.I got the 6" version, too. Well worth it!

The most beautiful ruler I've ever seen
This ruler is a joy to use. The finish is excellent, the markings are very easy to read, and it feels like a precision instrument. The edges seem to have been precision ground, making them square and true on every face, including the ends. It is designed in the style of a machinist's rule.I would not recommend this for kids or anyone that expects to toss this in a backpack without care. No thought has been given to rounding the corners for safety or comfort; that's not the intention with this design. Definitely save the plastic sheath that it comes with, otherwise if you put it in a bag with other items the corners will catch and rip things. Again, this design is all about precision above all else. If that sounds appealing to you, you will fall in love with this ruler.

Good sturdy ruler
It is a very nice sturdy scale. It would be easier to read if the quarter and half marks were a little longer to stand out.

Excellent Japanese quality ruler!
Outstanding quality stainless steel ruler, especially for the price point. It's Made in Japan. Very easy to read, very nice markings, hard to find anything to complain about with this one! I got this, and the Mitutoyo at the same time, and the quality is comparable to the higher priced Mitutoyo in my opinion. If you are on the fence, go for it! You won't be disappointed.

Too big for horseband
Too big for horseband measure parts but so strong and rigid! Corners and edges sharp so good for opening packages but not good for measure smol package

If you need accuracy then you need a Shinwa ruler
These rulers are super high quality and dead on accurate, I've purchased multiples of the 6" and 12" and every one of them was exactly the same accuracy. These are thicker than the cheap chinese/india made levels at your local woodworking store, no flex/bend in them so they lay flat making marking an easier task. The combination of metric and standard is a really nice feature as well, with very crisp and easy to read numbers and lines. The finish is very subtle not shiny/glossy which makes these very nice in bright light, and should hold up for many years to come.
